Hi

i just looked through the manual of GT750 Optoma - but couldn't find anything on 'universal voltage'

Will this projector bought from Spain work in india without the step-down transformer?

Any safety precautions you guys would advice for projector owners in india, given that we live in pretty unique 'electric' situations'?

You must have a UPS that allows you to power down-allow the fan to run and cool the bulb-for a while before it shuts down, in the event of power failure. Projector bulbs run at high temperatures and without this precaution the bulb life will get significantly shorter.

Spain is in Europe and as far as I know follows the European standard of 220V/50Hz. Hence PJ will work without issues. The only hassle may be that base language/menus wil be in Spanish.

GeorgeO is right about using an online UPS. UPS will also take care of power fluctuations.

Cool - already have a UPS.

just found this on wiki
Spain 230 V 50 Hz ------Formerly 220 V.

india is 220v - so this shouldn't be a problem, I am presuming?

Ps. I read somewhere (on this site - and now can't find it) that all projectors are universal voltage compatible - true?

Almost all devices now support English menus/language and this can changed in the settings if its not the default.

I would also recommend a power backup. A basic one around 2k will do just to cool the pj sufficiently. It also goes without saying that ample ventilation for the pj is a must.

Dust should not be a issue in a HT room kind of setup but do keep an eye and clean with proper cloth periodically if required.

Looking forward to a detailed review of your experience with this..

My panasonic PT-AE700 is universal voltage (purchased in UK from an online site in NE). So there is a good chance that Spainish model will also be universal.

- when not in use, cover it to avoid dust. atleast on the ventilation openings where dust can get in.
- back up power as other's have said. if you have a routine power shutdown in your area, remember not to use the PJ during that time.(in case if you don't have UPS :)

any order in which AVR/source/PJ should be switched on/off to take care of any unknown issues to PJ or HDMI cables?? Anyone?

I'd like to know this too

There is no particular order for switching off AV devices. At least I don't follow any specific order.

Irrespective of any order, just ensure that the devices are properly switched off using the corresponding power buttons and not simply 'pull the plug' by turning the mains/power switch/plugs on the wall sockets directly.

A projector is any day better.

However the 13 feet in-effect will not be more then 8/10 feet because of seating arrangement. If the family is more of 3 people then in effect, you will be left with a mere 6/8 feet of viewing. With such a fall of viewing distance, it may not be a good idea to go for a projector though some of them may not mind to watch movies from such a short distance but the issue is will it be good in the long run?

Moreover there will be a few more issues which you have to consider before you go for the projector.

Please do write your views on these pointers.
