Are you sure, I thought HDD's speed is limited by USB2.0 architecture. Will test it out today. I have earlier removed the HDD, its just a snap in connector to USB dock.

if you are directly connecting the HDD and considering its got mostly a 7200 rpms speed check this Chart .. strike off the 20% ..its more like ~60% more.. povided the HDD you connect is of 7200 with more cache ...may be this should answer your doubts...

am more concerned about the rpms of the external disk used in question.... most of em 2.0 ones initially were smartly packed 5600 rpm ones..
