Sonodyne, are they value for money at their current price?

KK, please do audition the speakers before you buy them. Sound is a personal thing, what hold good for others may not be good for you...

And when you own a particular brand, you tend to push its negatives and advice people only on the positives, so you have a good audition and buy them.

At the end of the day, it is a matter of the heart over head, if you like Sonodyne, you should buy Sonodyne, Period.

Hi all,

I had a look at the "Show your equipment thread" right here in HIFIVision and you will see that Sonodyne is in a minority.

People who speak high off Sonodyne, when the final purchase happens, they settle for Phoren brands. I mean, if you have to show off the gear, you better show off something better than this vintage design or a better brand name.

Avant does look good, but people prefer wooden cabinets and even the sales person was promoting the wooden cabinet.

Regarding this thread, feedback is a good thing for companies, I am sure this will help them.

Hopefully it will help Sonodyne if they watch this thread...They atleast can take cues from here....

I know atleast know more than 5 ppl who owns Sonodyne products on this forum... Not everyone likes to take picture & share it in the showcase setup..:) for some reason or the other..

I had to post pictures of my setup longback...But didn't do it, i need to alter my TV stand... I will post the pictures of my speakers very soon....:ohyeah:

May be true !
But, in my case, it is a little different. The only reason for my inclination towards Sonodyne is because it is Indian ( Patriotic feeling somewhere :) inside ) and I am new to the Hi-Fi world and I never heard any of the speakers we all are talking about. After some PMs to forum members like vnmathur, elagoas and nanacp76 who personally use Sonodyne speakers and getting confirmations about the performance of the speakers, I finalized Sonodyne. Waiting for money to pile up so that I can buy AVR+5.1 setup. I may purchase them soon :clapping:

Same here buddy for two reasons... 1) Somewhere patriotic feeling... Take pride in owning Indian products in midst of all the dominance of foreign brands....
2) Value for money...

Yeah, I do agree. But, I have no options
When I contacted Sonodyne for their dealer/distributor in Hyderabad. When I mailed the local dealer, here is the reply I got :

Dear Mr. Krishanakanth,

As we have mentioned, we are the authorised channel partners for Sonodyne, hence we do not stock these speakers in ready stock.

On the serious note we can arrange to get them and plan a demo for a 5.1 home theater, but before that we would like to know a bit more to arrange for a real cinematic experience.

and he quoted higher price than what I can get from hifimart.com that too 100% advance payment and 10-15 days of delivery time + Local transportation extra.

However, I will audition Polk, Yamaha, Wharfedale speakers when I go to buy receiver (probably Yamaha 473 or older versions of 5xx,6xx if I get them cheaper).

2605 has 2 woofers + 1 Midrange + 1 silk dome tweeter...

It has been a perennial issue of our industry when it comes to fit and finish. Even a 14 lakh Rupees Tata Safari cannot match the fit and finish of a Santro. We are traditionally not so much into looks as much as the westerners. It possibly eludes us when we do things or it matters less. Whatever it is it is deep rooted in our culture to overlook looks to some extent IMHO. We are more after practical and functional aspects, hence we eat with our hands :)

Here is their current price and they are for single. I am also aware of the 10% off offer.

Sonus 2605 v3 3 way tower speaker 14500.00
Sonus C 2401v3 centre speaker (shielded) 6450.00
Sonus 2504 v3 2 way tower speaker 10400.00
Sonus Rears v 3 Dipole surround speaker 6800.00
Sonus 1501 v3 2 way bookshelf speaker 5950.00

Roarr 108 Front firing powered subwoofer-100 watt 15800.00
Roarr 210 Front firing powered subwoofer- 150 watt 19450.00

For some reason, I kept thinking that Sonus 2605v3 cost 26K a piece and did not consider them VFM, but I stand corrected and at this price, I think they are definately worth a big consideration for a person on a budget

elangoas, I think we should add a poll to this thread, about the number of folks who own this brand.

Dr. Bass summed it so aptly, the Tata Motors example was classic.

My first car was a Maruti Alto, my first 5.1 amp and speakers still is a Bangalore make (Rontek Storm), I don't know if you guys have heard about this brand, you can google for Rontek.

When I wanted an upgrade for the car, I wanted ABS and Airbags as standard fitment, to my utter dismay many of the Indian brands didn't have these or offered this only on the highest variant possible. Obviously I went for a phoren brand which offered it in the basest variant possible.

Forget this, when I went to buy a small aquarium bubble / air pump, the Indian ones, the less we speak about them, the better. I have realised this, we have a lot of scope for improvement, hopefully we get there soon...

Sonodyne screams value for money to me at least. Sound signature is an intensely personal preference, whether you like the output and if you consider it to be warm, bright or neutral. So I suppose no one can say with a certainty that another person will like the sound of one particular setup. But, as far as price to quality comparison go it is difficult to go wrong with Sonodynes. I am sure those who have owned these are saying the exact same thing. I own the 1501 BS, I got the pair for just around 9K in January. Tell me any other offering for just 9K with this amazing sound quality and I will say it can not be true. Wharfes and other brands products in the price range discussed are only the very entry level offerings, and if pure SQ is the consideration then there is simply no comparison.
Looks are a completely different animal which is not Sonodyne's forte perhaps, but I am not that fussed about it. I like the old fashioned 'speaker' feel when I look at them, the kind of picture that is in my memory from childhood, and the 1501s do not let me down there as well.

Exactly my point, it is only the owners who have already brought it finds it value for money. Most people end up buying other brands after speaking highly about Sonodyne sound quality. Why would value for money product with excellent quality have less takers?

few reasons that i think

1) Sound signature being personal preference than cost...
2) Apprehension as it is an Indian product..
3) Marketing not so good for Home Audio Products...(Learn it from Micromax)
4) Lack of distribution in Major cities/Towns...
