Sony KLV-40V550A vs KLV-40W550A - Surprise news

^well thats subjective, whether u wish to pay 20k more for W550A.but u must note that companies make higher profit in higher end models,in case of sony they either make profit or make lower loss in high end models.the X450 costs a cool 1lakh more then S or V series ,the panel used is pretty much the same perhaps cherry picked, they only have superior aesthetics, sound and image processing, backlight, offcouse the 46inch versions have tri luminous LED ,but even with all these tech it won't cost the company much, but despite sony selling at a high price compared to rival brands, there lcd tv business are still under a loss.
samsung is obviously milking money in their led lcds tvs,for one they have just a tiny fraction of white leds compared to local dimming tri-luminous led used in X450,nor does the image processing and sound come close to the X450A.yet there prices are insanely high and the name led tv is misleading.

again u can always go for the cheaper samsung series 6 which has 100hz,the pros and cons have already been discussed

Thanks.

Like you indicated, the SAMSUNG LA 40B650 is a strong contender along with the SONY 40S/V/W550's for many, especially with the new SONY prices.

The only major difference seen is the DLNA feature which SONY does not give in above mentioned models in India. However, have read a lot of forums, outside this one, where regular users are talking of how it is not a plug-n-play type situation to make use of the DLNA feature in the 40B650. Some tech savvy folks have figured it out, but for regular users it could still be challenging. Other than the above, the video USB capability can be acquired by getting a good DVD player having USB that plays DivX etc. movies.
So, question to ask would be, even if current SONYs do not give the DLNA feature (in India models), does it really matter to an average daily user who is not that tech savvy?

Like it has been mentioned all along, SONY currently has better SD upscaling with BE3 and better contrast & sound comparitively. Something to think about before making the final choice!

Having said above, have had a look at the LA 40B650. The glossy panel is a fingerprint magnet and it showed even on the sets in the showroom.
However, actually liked the PQ of the LA 40B650 with so many features. The sound was decent too.

Wanted to take this discussion between SAMSUNG LA 40B650 & SONY 40" 550 series a step further and in a slightly different direction and get forum members views / thoughts.

I am not too familiar with the way IPTV works, and so this may be irrelevant question. However, talk about IPTV availability in India is getting traction with Airtel & BSNL providing these services.

Now, would a Ethernet port be required in a LCD TV as future proofing, if IPTV were to be well advertized and gains more traction and becomes a direct competitor for current day DTH service? Or a IPTV service also provides a STB thru' which the LCD TV may be connected?

Question is, as a part of future proofing is it better to consider the SAMSUNG 40B650 [having Ethernet port], over the Indian models of SONY "KLVs", which DO NOT have an Ethernet port. Corresponding SONY models worldwide with "KDL" series have given customers an Ethernet port

Thoughts?

well for iptv u will have to buy a STB currently they cost around 3k to 4k.there is no way one can view IPTV just by connecting it to a ethernet port, unless ofcourse the tv has a built in IPTV tuner.
IPTV still has a long way to go in india.we had reliance who had launched their service more then a year ago, still is in beta stage.then there is BSNL which hasn't changed much since the soft launch.

Thanks for the update.

In which case, from an IPTV future proofing perspective it does not matter if or not the LCD TV (SAMSUNG & SONY in this case) has an ethernet port.

The SONY Diwali 2009 offers indicate the "V" series as "Best Buy", both in 40" & 32". Considering to purchase a 40" LCD this Diwali.

Any guesses / reasons, why SONY is saying "V" series as "Best Buy"? The 40S550 (64K) is identical to 40V550 (70K) is identical to 40W550 (90K) [except 100Hz Motion Flow in the W series].

So what makes the V series as "Best Buy"? Inputs / thoughts from forum members would be helpful.

since their isn't much difference b/w V and S internally,in V they get more profit margins or should i say sustain lesser loss.
btw compareindia prices state S series as low as 59990.grey market price is also about the same.

Thanks. Makes sense.

59.9K is a certainly attractive price for 40S550. However I have no idea where to even start searching for grey market / Compare India stores in my city (new to the city). Let alone, do the footwork / research and build trust with some unknown grey market shop salesguy.

So just like many on this forum, who are in a similar situation, I'd just rather stick to the bigger electronic stores and pay the 'premium' for the lack of knowledge and scepticism about an unknown grey market store.

But, still I wonder if the build quality of the bezel, backlight, panel etc. are slightly different (like you suggested in earlier post) in the S (nice), V (good) & W (better) series...something that is not directly visible (except the bezel) to customers. Maybe considering all this, SONY recommends V series as a 'best buy'?
