Hi,

I bought a Sony LED TV KDL 40EX710 around November 2010. In April 2013, the TV showed negative green images through all sources, i.e. Airtel dish and DVD player and the issue was resolved after spending Rs 1,200/-. Now after 7 months, the problem has resurfaced. I am attaching the pictures for a better understanding. Has anybody faced this problem before? What should I be doing to make sure this problem does not arise again. The TV's power cord is connected through a Belkin surge protector. Please advise.

Thanks a lot !!

Probably you may want to check the optical block replacement if needed. How was the earlier issue resolved? You did not mention that! Even if it was optical block replacement, that would be temporary though!
Now another Sony product in questioning the reliability!!

Sorry for the late reply. Actually I was not in town when the TV was repaired last time. So I am not aware of what exactly happened. The engineer will be coming today. I will take all the information and post it here. Thanks Sgmane and Neeraj for your suggestions and comments.

The engineer had come over and told me that the choke filter might need a replacement. Although there could be some other problem and hence they will have to service the set at their office. They will tell me the exact cause of the problem only once they have opened the set. My LG TV touchwood, has given me a trouble free viewing experience since last 3 years. I feel Sony products are not suited for Indian conditions.

It is not so that sonyis not suitable for indian climate etc... It os just a luck ... Good to know that ur lg us doing good... And I am sure if ur problem gets rectified correctly ... Ur sony will also serve u well... Typically too hot or too humid climate can cause issues to electronic goods.. Like staying very close to sea beach... Etc... but it is not that the failure wud be very often .but just that probability of failure wud go up... Anyways ... Best wishes...

Good to know service guy is looking into!
Not that LG is good or Sony is bad or vice-versa. Like @sandesh1978 mentioned its luck.
There are FM's having Sony (or LG) running for more than 4-5yrs Or either of them going kaput!
But not to leave behind the reality - Oflate, sony flat panels are giving problems after warranty, so their reliability is questionable.
Choke coil/filter replacement may not be a big amount. Let's wait and see what your service guy tells.

Sorry to post late guys !! My Television was delivered on the 12th Nov. The root cause of the problem was the choke coil which was replaced for Rs 2,200/-. Also I asked the engineer why the problem RE-occurred. He suggested that the Mother board may be requiring a replacement which would set me back by another Rs 10,000/-. I have no clue why a mother board would cause the choke coil to conk off. I guess the honeymoon days are over with this set, purchased for Rs80,000/- 3 years ago and requiring frequent service of late.

It's a Sony ....

Well i won't go for a Sony as now its just a brand name. The quality is not there anymore.

Please check the warranty offered on replaced parts, should be at least 3 months. As your investment on repairs is going up.

Congrats!
I am not an electronic engineer. But some information which may be of use to you.
Some motherboards will have these chokes called RF chokes (Radio Frequency Chokes), which is used to reduce interference with other devices specially in TV sets. This will be part of the power supply circuit.

Your honey-moon days are extended! May be you can go for a replacement before it bites big in your wallet. Oh! Sony don't do this! I trusted you based on your brand name (called reliability). Now i am left in a lurch!!!

Enjoy your viewing!
