The MBL bookshelves was excellent and it was better than KEF LS 550s in my opinion but the warmth of the vintage audio gear was more endearing to me. Maybe it's my personal taste as it sounded more analogue than other gear including Analog Audio Labs presentation. Did you all notice that nobody wanted to leave after a long day's auditioning?

That is the best compliments/achievement of the day. We had a nice time and minimum equipment's which sounded from optimum to superior level which made everybody happy.

We should be thankful for the dealers also for the same which they have selected the equipment's carefully which performed all-round.

No-doubt LS3/5a + Quad II combo made the day more memorable;)

The photo below was taken around 6 to 6.30PM, don't think anybody is looking tired....

Can someone please enlighten me on which model of MBL bookshelf speaker was on demonstration and if possible what was the ball park price? I have been looking forward to audition the MBL 126 Radialstrahler bookshelves for some time now.....

Hi,

The best was served last! Only when I listened to Quad II with LS3/5A + Bryston+Lyrta Pre, I felt that the trip was well worth. I really sounded warm and engaging. Thanks to Rajiv and others for the thoughtful arrangements especially the last session

Thank you.

That is what a "music" system will do as opposed to a hifi system, draw you in to the music so that you forget to analyse the sound and just sink into the music forgetting time and space.

BTW we did not use any firehose sized mega $$$ cables with the Quad/Spendor system, just bog standard off the reel Finolex power cables, good quality Crabtree/Anchor plugs&sockets , Sony interconnects that came with an old tape deck between the Bryston and Lyrita Pre and Lyrita cables between the Pre and Quad II/II.

Rajiv

...is the implication of the above comment that the system sounded great...but could have sounded even better? :)) OK - I was just being naughty...looks like it was a great success and a good time was had by all.

The implication is that if the "heart" of the system is right then you don't need the $$$$$ fancy stuff.

Would the fancy stuff have made the system sound better? Maybe, but why would anyone want to spend $$$$$$ on cables when the system cost some thousands and sounds like a millon bucks.:)

If it ain't broke don't fix it.;)

+1 to the highlighted part. That is what the 'Dared' 6L6 based PP Amp is doing in my system.

It would be interesting to see what would happen if we did; if not the 'fire hose sized cables, at least some acclaimed ones like 'Audio Art' and stuff like that.

Ballparkprices are not being quoted on the open forum because they had special pricing at the meet, just send a PM to one of the organizers, they should share the info.

Thanks Capt. Rajesh, Srini, Rajiv, Murali and everyone for putting together a great meet.

I had to leave early and think I missed the best of the evening session but it was great to connect with everyone again. Cheers again :)

+1 to the highlighted part. That is what the 'Dared' 6L6 based PP Amp is doing in my system.

If just one person came together with one machine at the Kalyana Santhai* then it was all worth while.

(I wanted to get together with Genelec baby, but they told me no, only those with established microsoft careers could apply, as Baby has to be kept in luxury)

*Hope it's the right word: I asked wife!

Am curious - could any one of the organizers please PM me the prices of the Analog Audio tube equipment, Dared amp and the MBL speakers? Thanks in advance.

Also Thad - do the Genelecs have a digital input?

Congrats to Captain, Rajiv, Srini, Murali, and others for the well organized meet.
It was a pleasure to meet new members, and catch up with friends from last years meet. One could sense the enthusiasm of the participants and the audio equipment partners.
I had to leave after the morning session (but not before the excellent lunch!), and may have missed the best and last evening session. The feedback from these sessions made up a bit for the miss.

What stood out to my ears were
a)the KEF LS50 speakers that blurred the distinction between bookshelf and floorstanding speakers, and
b) Analog Audios tube amps performance

There was a good selection of music (kiranPS), and the sound track from Simon Birch (mikehcm), both, opened my ears to a different direction in music listening. There was also a track that Pro-FX used in the demo (Exorcism from Karnatriix album Namaste) that was my first exposure to fusion music, and liked it well enough to download the album from Flipkart.

wow! looks like I missed one helluva meet...kudos to Captain et al for pulling off an astounding show :clapping::clapping::clapping::clapping::clapping:

Multiple listening rooms!!! This 'truely' was an audio meet...sets the bar for others to follow...maybe someday we'll have our own RMAF/Lone Star/Axpona/Burning Amp...It's just a matter of time... :ohyeah:

Also Thad - do the Genelecs have a digital input?

In general, it is the DSP range that have built-in DACs, room correction, etc. I forget the model numbers. The ones we saw this time (and remember that they are so small you could hold one on the palm of each hand) have only unbalanced analogue in.

They were being demo-ed using the headphone sockets of a tablet and a couple of phones, so what we heard would have been worst-case!

Yes, Thad is correct-the base level-what we saw on Sunday, as well as the next higher models don't have DSP ( and I think dont have digital inputs). We hope to have a range of their products demo'ed here in Bangalore-Prashant was kind enough to offer to showcase a range of his products, at our event. Suffice it so say that these products are well engineered and very sophisticated products.
