Hi Guys,

I have SONY STR DN-1050 receiver and connected with Polk TSX110B bookshelf speakers as front for now. I dont have any other speakers connected.

I set the front speakers as large and turned off the subwoofer out to get some bass effects.

There is a setting in the receiver that starts from -0.0db ti +10.0db. When I increase the level then I am getting some loudness. It is good when I listen to some songs or movies in certain low level volume a 25 (max 72). But when I increase the volume it is started distorting.

When I auto calibrate it the levels set to 0.0db automatically.

My question is that, can I set set these speaker levels manually? Or it will cause my speakers burn?

What is the require level for these polk speakers?

Thanks in advance.

If the Auto calibration returned '0 db', then leave it as it is.... Tweaking this will not harm your speaker in any way....

You have done the right speaker setting... Try to read the manual for better understanding before you tweak...

The main thing you need to understand any AVR is to read the manual fully with regard to various settings and then start tweaking the settings.

Have u auto calibrated using the mic supplied with the AVR by keeping the mic at a listening place? Based on the distance and angle of the placed mic, db level and distance will be set by the system.

Regards

Thank you elangoas and pakecc.

Calibration settings are OK for watching movies and for music I needed that settings.

I will try reading the manual and use the calibration settings itself..

Thank you very much guys.....

Well adding extra level to the channel makes sound little sharp.May be preamp add noise to it.So best way is to trust your ears and set with best dynamics.:)

Thank you elangoas and spirovious .

@Elango : Is pure direct for music? I have not checked it yet.

@spirovious : Increasing level settings improve sound quality for music because I am using only bookshelf speakers.

Still I have equalizer for each and every channel. But level settings beat equalizer in terms of bass in small speakers. May be it will be good for floor standing speakers.

Pure direct mode in AVR applies to both Music/Movies too... After some reading, i came to understand that the input signal takes the shortest path, with minimal to no interference from other components on the board of AVR, DSP modes (Like Hall, concert, rock) will not be applied to your music... Juz straight playback of sound, almost close to your input file...

Yes, in Yamaha also Direct mode bypasses many other unwanted circuitry to have shortest signal path for music. All the DSP functions will be disabled in Direct mode.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
