There is a beggar in Madurai who looks and sounds very similar. Everyday evening he comes to the street near the rly station where all the lodges are present, sets up a mike sits down and sings in the most soulful voice, tapping on a kanjeera, till late upto midnight. Authentic Tamil "blues" without imitating any American music.
These people have more soul in their music than most mainstream artists.
There are lots of beggars travelling on train who are capable of real soulful music - although I have heard very few original compositions Most sing film music (old melodies) or devotional songs.
