Hi friends...

Room Size = 12 x 10

Music Source = Desktop PC

Music Type = Pop, Rock, Hip-Hop, Dance, House, Trance, Techno. So good Bass is Important.

Budget = Upto Rs 50000-60000 + Separate Budget for Stereo Amp.

So kindly guide me towards a few Speakers that all the experts and other members here think will serve me well. Also kindly suggest a matching Stereo Amplifier.

I understand that only my ears can decide what is best however i would need a few recommendations to that i can start doing Demos.

Thanks to all.. ;-)

MA RS1, which could be considerably cheaper, B & W 685. I heard these about 1.5 years back and they may fit your budget (probably a little under your budget). One of the members started a long thread about Dali Ikon 2 - you could read that up as well. What budget do you have for amp.

On the other hand, if you are going to continue using a PC, you could fit decent quality amp + speakers within your 60K budget itself.

usher x-718. i auditioned them for a friend, along with a bunch of other speakers in the same price range. it was better than most.

@ kdlsrinu... Could you kindly mentioned model nos for the Speakers.... Thanks

@ srramanujam...

I would look into the speakers you mentioned...

Yes i would continue using my PC...

Could you recommend a decent quality amp + speakers within 60K....?

Thanks buddy...

P.S : Is it possible to add a "Subwoofer" later on to a Stereo Amp + Stereo Speakers setup ?

rana
you have a smallish to regular room
I would advice you consider bookshelves only

the advice on the Monitor Audio silver series RS1 ( older model ) is good, you should look into these speakers.Since this is an older model ( new model is RX1) you should manage to get it in 35-40k

Another speaker brand i would ask you to consider is KEF.
though the budget series are not worth the money the higher ones are good
You should be able to afford the single 6inch woofer + 1 tweeter models in your budget
However stay away from dual woofer models

yet another speaker to consider are the Quads at this price the 12l series
Amps can only be decided once your speaker choice is done

and yet another offering is Paradigm

Demo/used Quad 22l2 if you want towers.Quad 11l2 if you want stand mounts.--BASS AND TREBLE DELHI.

Used Dynaudio Audience 52 SE
Amp-demo/used Arcam A28
BOOMARANG,MUMBAI

For your requirement I would look at Polk Audio, Definitive Technology, Klipsch...typically multi-driver floorstanding speakers. Polk Audio will fit your bill nicely.

Another option is to buy the largest subwoofer you can afford for 30k. Now combine this with a 25k bookshelf speaker. Try and get bookshelf speakers with horn loaded tweeters. You will get the bite for rock and foundation shakin bass for house / techno.

Hi Rana,
Managing "clear" bass in 10 x 12 room can be diffficult. Here is what I suggest:

Considering your room size of 12 x 10 feet, I "believe" floorstanders (FS) will overwhelm your room with bass (@ moderately loud level say... SPL of 80 dB at 1 mtr) considering that you won't be able to maintain a clear distance of min 2-6" between the bass-reflex port of FS and the rear wall.

I can "feel" that even with my room of 16 x 18 feet + my wharfedale 9.2 bookshelfs, the room reflections of bass become quite prominent compared to direct sound from speakers at moderately loud levels (Norge-1000 amp volume at 11'o clock position).

If you run floorstanders at low volumes they may not deliver the same SQ as a bookslhelf since they are meant to be played loud.

I suggest a good bookshelf (Usher S520 @ 24k) + Marantz 7001 amp @ 24k?? for your setup. You can add a sub later. Sub gives you more bass-management options than a FS in a small room (Consider low-end subs from REL or HSU in 50 k range, to match the budget of this combo... the sub needs to be very musical /fast to match the finesse of Usher 520).

Though Usher 520 delivers sufficient bass for music to sound complete, it can't be called "prominent bass". For more bass I suggest Quad 11 L2 (price??)

Disclaimer: Except Usher S520, I havn't actually heard the other items... however they are recommended based on essence of reports on this forum and web. Finally let your ears be the final judge.

Before speakers,
may I know how you plan to connect the desktop PC to your amp?
What soundcard you would be using?
what music format you will be using?

First of all a warm thanks to all for the inputs...

@ kdlsrinu

I'd prefer Book shelfs as my room is small.... what do you say ?

@ spirovious

I'd lke to spend slightly more for something higher than MA BR2. Budget for Speakers is upto 50k. Of course that does not mean that i necessarily have to spend that much but i feel the BR2 wont make me happy. I want to spend as much as i can because i'm not thinking of upgrading for another 5 yrs minimum. But yes i'll consider them in my list of probables... Thanks pal ;-)

@ magma

yes sir.. i wanna go with book shelves. I'll consider RS1. Though i read some where that MA is more suited to Home Theater Movies kind of Sound rather than for music. Please correct me if i'm wrong. Also which Kef model are you refering to...?

@ ajay

thanks m adding the Quad 11 L2 to my probables list.

@ Dr. Bass

I would kinldy request you to kindly give model no.s while recommending brands because i went to the Polk audio, Definative technology & Klipsch websites only to find about 20-30 different models.... So just got confused there. Could you tell me which particular model no.s you intented to recommend.

@ Square wave

Bro you gave me a really good tip there.. i'd request you to kindly give me specific model no.s too... Thanks. ;-)

@ Sonosphere

I totally agree with you that i need to go for book shelves. I dont have the space for the bass-reflex for floor standers. I'll add the Usher S520 & Quad 11 L2to my probables list.

@ madbullram

I'm gonna connect my Laptop PC via a USB DAC. I'm considering the HRT Music Streamer II & Nuforce uDAC.

Music format is all mp3.

So guys which pair of Bookshelves do you all think that i should add to my probables list...?? A small request to all members to kindly give a specific model no. when you reccommend a Speaker Brand.

Once i have a list ready i'll try hear all of them in a single day so that i can make a clear judgement based on current memory of a single day. Maybe and most probably i'll so again and demo all of them after 3 days and then maybe a final 3rd round before making a decision.

What do you guys suggest....?

You may also try the Focal Audio Bookshelves in your budget and a decent Sealed Sub Woofer for the same.

Since you are particular on hearing music I suggest you to buy a sealed SUB.

Hi,

Actually you can use iDecco with Era 4 speakers as single package. Its been getting good reviews.

IDecco also integrates well with IPOD.

The good thing about iDecco is you can later add a sub or power amplifier
to handle power part.

The total package would be rs60000

Infact six moon reviews it was given award with following recommendations for speakers

Amphion helium 2 and a Sub
or
Strada Speakers and Sub from Anthony

The other options to consider is the Benchmark DAC with Active studio monitors from Dyna audio.

Thanks
Venkat

I will recommend the JMlab Chorus 706, I have heard it few times and it is a sweet sounding speaker with good bass.

It is an efficient speaker so u don't need powerful amplifiers, a used musical fidelity A1 is enough to make it sing or any clean low powered integrated for that matter.

Focal JMlab enceintes acoustiques haute fidlit haut-parleurs voiture audiomobile Car audio tuning

Here are a few reviews of the older and newer model if you want to read:

Regds,

Sonos,

Your intentions are good but have you heard the following music on a pair of balanced sounding bookshelf speakers ?

Hip-Hop, Dance, House, Trance, Techno

Overwhelming bass in the room is what is required for this to work ! The music is created for such an application !

Quad 11L and Usher 520 will not work ! The Usher 520 with a 12 inch sub may work for him. Polk has some subs which will do the Job.

More than me recommending I'm posting this to get feedback on these two bookshelves:

o) Dali Lektor 3
oo) MS Mezzo 2

Anyone auditioned/own these spkrs, pls share ur views, tks

Hi Rana,
Squarewave has raised a very relevant, but probably unforeseen issue below.

I have been considering that you need tight, "thumpy" bass, not the discotheque type overbearing bass. Please convey If you need that discotheque kind of overall SQ in Hip-Hop, Dance, House, Trance, Techno. If yes, then spending 50k for a "refined" stereo speaker is an overkill. If no, then consider the sub a must along with my recommended Usher S520 & Marantz 7001 (You will have best of both worlds... boom world and refined world)

Please revert, then I and others can suggest a better solution
