My DF-10 sub is leaking glasswool from the bottom port !! Yesterday my maid found a few bits of glasswool on the floor which she threw away. Today there was a larger quantity (bigger than a fist), which was lying around the sub. Should I be worried about this? For the time being I've pushed it back in the port, but is it supposed to leak like this? I've not overpowered the sub at any time. All times my receiver is playing movies is around -9.0/-10.0 dB. Only at times have i increased the volume to around -6.0 dB.

I am a bit scared - thankfully it's still in warranty as it's purchased only 2-3 months back. I'm planning to write to them about this and see what their response is.

Is that absorbent material glass wool or polyester fiber (recron) ?.

How does one find out. Can you give any links or images of it?

Polyester fiber or "recron" is the pillow fill material, you must have seen. Used in pillows, cushions, blankets etc.. Usually white in colour, produced in sheets & loose fill.
Where as glass wool is mostly used as heat insulation material in refrigerators, air conditioners & cooling channels. It is extruded from natural glass, usually mfd in sheets, yellow in colour & some times found in white colour in loose fill form. Not so user friendly as poly-fiber, If touched with bare hands will cause irritation to skin. In early days speaker boxes used this as damping material. Had lots of drawbacks were later replaced by the introduction of synthetic poly fill material. Glass wool is still found in some low cost or inferior grade sound boxes ... mostly locally make, where poly-fill is expensive or hard to find.

Either Recron or glass wool does not matter and it should not be coming out. Please lodge a complaint and claim replacement / free repair under warranty

As per the company the power seems to be unsettling it. They are working on a trap that doesn't intrude with the performance. If finished they will retrofit it in my woofer. Can someone help me translate this into plain English? What's a trap?

Kneo, Not to make you panic, but my DF 10 leaked wool like this and i returned it to vendor and had my refund thru snapdeal.
The clip light was blinking red most of the time. I used to play the subwoofer with volume 4 still.

suggest you speak to vendor on this.

By that ..... (power seems to be unsettling it), I think they mean that the pressure build up inside the enclosure at high power is creating some sort of a turbulence that is breaking up the layers of the absorbent material. From you pics its clear that it is "recron".
By the word (trap), I assume that they means some advance method of lining the interiors with recron, maybe by means of more effective stapling or adhesion or securing by some sort of woven mesh which securely hold up the sheets & help them from falling or breaking apart.

I think that the sheets are not that high density or highly compressed ones.
Recrons are available in variable hardness or densities.

In plain English it means that you are their Guinea pig and they will do R&D on you

That thought it a scary one!

Unfortunately even if I get a replacement, I think that it may have the same flaw as it looks more like a design issue than a manufacturing one.

Any suggestions on how do I approach this?

How much time did you use your sub before it started leaking wool? You'd purchased it through snapdeal so you're lucky as they'd have processed the refund for you. I am a bit skeptic about a refund as I've purchased it directly from the company.

Is it bought for more than 10 days? They told me that if you are not satisfied you can return it and they will refund the complete amount.

Ask for a refund in the first place failing which a replacement though the replacement one also might have the same defect as you rightly pointed out that it seems to be a design flaw.

In any case how is the sound quality ? in all probability the glass wool or Recron poly fill will stop coming out once a cavity is formed inside for the sound pressure to escape / dissipate and if you still like the sound quality I guess you can reconcile to the starting problems.

The sound quality is quite good at the price point. It does cover my L shaped room quite well.

Purchase the Audiolab 6000A Integrated Amplifier at a special offer price.
