Sun Direct HD takes consumer rights abuse to a new high.

Basically most DTH and Mobile Phone operators in our Country are corrupt and misleading......
 
I agree, in India still consumerism is not there. Paying higher prices in India for older models and stil considered developing nation.
 
It just keeps getting worse with Sun Direct.

When I called Sun Direct HD's customer care, to register a complaint regarding the 'watermark', I was quite bluntly and rudely told that the 'watermakr' will remain, no matter what. The audacity with which the customer service rep. responded to my question was actually beyond shocking. First of all, it's not like the fool is the CEO of the company, or anywhere even close to being in a position where he could make a policy decision. Secondly, even if he were the CEO of the company, it would still be unbelievable that even a CEO would respond by outrightly slamming the doors on a customer's complaint/suggestion. Secondly and even more importantly, the customer care rep outrightly refused to even register the complaint and said that it was not his job to register such complaints. He also had no suggestions as to where else would a customer register their complaint.

Bottom Line: SUN DIRECT HAS TRULY REACHED ROCK BOTTOM AND IS EASILY THE WORST DTH COMPANY BY FAR.
I am sorry, just having the maximum number of HD channels do not make them a good company.

The people in Sun Direct are not trained to handle Customer Service. My friend was told to throw away the STB by this customer service people when he complained that he is not getting most of the channels (he did that and went for another DTH provider).
 
Top Ten reasons to take the Indian DTH companies to court and make TRAI a party to it.

1. DTH company logos on all channels.
2. Additional 'Watermarks'. (exclusive to Sun Direct HD, atleast for now)
3. Terming & advertising upscaled, FAKE HD channels as HD.
4. Flashing of 'fingerprint'.
5. Disabling of remote while flashing 'fingerprint'. (exclusive to Sun Direct HD, for now)
6. Forcing the consumer to pay for SD channels to get HD channels. 7. Forcing the set-top box to go to the DTH companies promo page, each time the set-top box is turned on.
8. Disabling the set-top box from showing 'free to air channels' unless atleast the basic package is also subscribed to. (This is already against TRAI regulations)
9. Not implementing the portability of set-top boxes to enable consumers to shift to different companies. (This is already against TRAI regulations)
10. Many instances of outright false advertising.

I am sure there other issues too. These are just the one's that came to mind off hand.

PS: Except for 8 & 9, I am not aware of a single other country, atleast not any first world country, that allows or would allow such blatant abuse of 'consumer rights'. No. 6 also I am not too sure of, but when TRAI has already ruled forcing of bundled packages as illegal, then this one simply falls under the same logic.
 
I think (i may be wrong) that trai only is a advisory body so their decisions are not binding like different standards bodies in foreign countries.Trai in my opinion is nothing more than a toothless tiger which promises to bite the derriere of the abusive companies but ends up kissing it.
 
I did not want to start a new thread for this, but this ad from today's Deccan Chronicle was very appealing. Per say, SUN might not be as good as TS. Any comments please...

With no signs of tata sky launching their much awaited new HD box, i am left with no option except to look at Sun Direct HD. But the overall experience of the members here is not encouraging.

Can someone tell me what is bad about Sun Direct HD, is it the overall quality of the channels or is it the customer service?

ny idea when tata sky will launch with the new HD set top box. I can probably wait for another 1 or 2 weeks max.
 
The regional channels or HD or Upscaled? Also, they dont show sports in HD which is a major turn off for me

I was surprised too with the ad about HD regional channels - I never knew there were any Telugu HD channels. I am hoping this is upscaled, but wouldnt that be eligible to be called "cheating"
 
I hate sun direct hd and their service for what i have been through today,since the history channel and hungama tv are not available in their basic service did my top up and activated these channels .i was pleasantly surprised to see they had activated it the minute i clicked on the button in their customer care portal but then the usual headache started instead of activating history channel they had activated fox history in its place and for hungama tv they only seem to have the hindi feed which disses me off because sun direct is based in tn most of its customers are from tn and i have subscribed to the tamil pack duh.And their customer support wow what imagination they said i am getting fox history instead of history because of hdmi and asked me disconnect and reconnect and also to use analog cables that was the last straw.i heard that ordinary sundirect folks have the option to change audio by using the shuffle button no shuffle button available in hd and i tried using the audio button which changes from stereo to right or left but it does not change the audio i dont want to call their customer support again as i may shout at them which may or may not result in improper functioning of my device so can anyone help me with the audio feed??
 
On the Sun Direct HD set-top box remote the audio language options are controlled by two buttons on the remote. There is the 'Audio' button and then there is the 'Alt' button just above the 'Audio' button. Try using the 'Alt' button to select language.

My exact thoughts. I did have pretty bad service experience with them. For a simple task that could have been resolved on the telephonic conversation in 2 minutes, they took more than 2 months.

I felt like I wanted to unplug their STB and placing it neatly on the carpet covered floor before trampling it with all my might.:yahoo:

I'm sticking because I don't have no choice at present in terms of the channel availability.

Remember plato sir, all these things like cable, STB etc, are imitations of imitations of imitations. They are thrice removed from reality and hence equally thrice removed from truth. You would do well to trample it for such a thing would never gain admittance to your ideal republic.
 
Slightly off tangent but related ....
After a long and hopeless wait for something 'entertaining' or 'illuminating' to emerge from television,I finally gave up in disgust, because I found not just the ad's but the stuff between the ad's-the soaps,politics,sports,film's,music video's,preening godmen,et al offensive and unbearable.
Since I completely stopped watching television a couple of years back,the sun shines brighter,the grass is greener,the world a far better place to live in.Recently I stopped reading all newspapers,national and international....and things got even better.
I think everyone has to individually answer the question- Does the Media inform or entertain anymore?
Or is it simply a battlefield where various political and corporate lobbies fight their never ending wars?
