SVS Placement Opinion

I have not tried Audyssey because
1) I'm using a Marantz 5006 at the moment so not sure how good the Room EQ will be
2) I don't know if my Onkyo mic is good to be used with the Marantz (its a standard mic so I think it's fine)
3) I Don't trust Audyssey in the AVRs that are typically in my budget
Oh you definitely should run the auto set-up variant you have. A lot of stuff a receiver does is based on the filters set by the auto setup. If the Onkyo mic is from a receiver with Audyssey then there is not a huge worry. Else check OLX or pro fx service center for the correct mic.

Yes, its an Audyssey mic itself which is why i though it should work with my Marantz. Cheers

Oh then no worries. You can definitely use it. Each mic is mapped to the receiver and the auto set-up variant. So you should be good to atleast 80 - 90%.

@Nitin K you mentioned 75db something while running Room EQ? Can you elaborate? My Onkyo just had a "Start" when i plugged in the mic

The auto calibration of Audyssey XT 32 will prompt you on the TV screen while it is emiting sounds from the sub during calibration. At that point you are supposed to keep the volume level on the sub at around 75 db and will be displayed on the TV.
I think Onkyo should have its own room calibration software. I was referring for the Marantz with comes with Audyssey.

Never done the correction on the Marantz, Onkyo never had the 75db thing. Thanks!

Most welcome. Auto calibration on Aydyssey is simple & will prompt you at every step. It's meant for beginners like us. Only thing to keep in mind is that when it prompts you to keep the mic for the subsequent listening position after the mlp then pls keep it ideally at 2 feet from the main listening position & avoid keeping more distance. Since my setup is 5.1, it prompted me for 6 mic positions including the mlp.
If possible use a camera tripod if not you can use the paper tripod which comes with the Marantz.
No harm in trying the Audyssey calibration. You can always reset the avr to factory setting if you don't like it.

I prefer having EQ set to flat but in this case i will try it. Hope i can cherry pick stuff later. E.g. turn of the EQ for all speakers except the sub. I don't think entry level AVRs from 2012 had this flexibility. My late Onkyo 608 sure did not have such stuff. Will report back once i have tried. Need to do it post midnight for best results. (Mumbai hustle and bustle)

There are a lot of other Audyssey settings within the AVR to play with & you can save the config file on a pendrive. The Audyssey phone app atleast for the Marantz works from the XX11 series onwards. Also while calibrating, the room should be as silent as possible as the mic is sensitive. Better to switch off fans, AC or any equipment that makes sound. Hence better to do it late at night. All the best.

Hi @sl4y3r

Since you are using a SR5006...here are some details in a snapshot...it supposedly has Multi EQ XT

Try the audyssey feature and subwoofer crawl.....the latest Audyssey Multi EQ XT 32 also has additional settings for sub EQ etc....
