TATA Sky HD Plus

I heard that Dish TV STB has a option to set your output to NTSC, was wondering if TATA sky HD has this option.

Like I and Sanjay have said, no such term in HD and no such setting in Dish TV STB. Its just a different refresh rate setting from its default 1920x1080i at 50Hz. You could change the resolution to 720p or 576p and refresh rate on these resolution (including original 1080i) to 60Hz. Hope this clarifies further.

Actually, 'Koffee with Karan' is origianlly shot in 16:9 HD and therefore all Star World needs to do is show the original HD source and thus there would be no black bars to begin with, let alone the need for any cropping of the bars. 'Koffee with Karan' is the biggest example of how technically challenged, the majority of the people in this industry are. It also shows how incompetent people continue to run these companies with no repucerssions whatsoever.

I am not quite sure what it is that you are trying to state. As for my list, I have not missed any category. I have yet to come across a single movie that is presented in the originally correct aspect ratio but in a 4:3 frame. Basically every single movie shown in upscaled SD has been cropped to a narrower aspect ratio. In other words, 2.35:1 movies have been cropped to either 16:9 (1.78:1) or even worse 4:3 (1.33:1) aspect ratio and 1.87:1 movies have been all cropped to 4:3 (1.33:1) aspect ratio. Thus, even if they were to have cropped the black bars before upscaling, the e movies would still not be in the original aspect ratio. Althouhg, it would still be better than the current method of simply horizontally stretching the 4:3 frame to fill the 16:9 frame. But quite honestly, the task of taking the SD masters and then cropping the black bars to get a 16:9 frame before upsclaing is a task that is almost as big as simply creating HD masters from the original film source. It actually would be less work and probably less expensive for Star Movies to source HD masters instead of spending time , effort and money on creating new SD masters that would still end up having an incorrect aspect ratio and would also still only be upscaled SD.

Regarding Koffee with Karan and American Idol, I agree if they have access to the original HD or 16:9 masters, they should use them. I told of the WORST CASE scenario like they are doing currently, they should atleast crop the bars to achieve original 16:9 image. That's the least they should do in this regards.

Like I said, almost all the SD movies shown in Star Gold HD have content of 21:9 or comparable ratio, but presented in 4:3 format! Rang De Basanti, Zindagi Rocks are few examples. I have seen few movies in Star Movies HD as well showing 16:9 or higher aspect ratio mastered movies showing that way which is really a laughable matter..

UPDATE: Watch "Paycheck" on Star Movies HD... You would know what I am talking about.. mastered in 16:9 presented in 4:3 SD and upscaled blindly from there (like Koffee with Karan).

I used to have a Panasonic 42G10D, the Tatasky HD+ quality looked awesome.
In PS51D550 I am getting a lot of jagged edges on almost all HD channels and pictures arent as clear either, its really off putting. I tried playing with the settings on TV but nothing helped.
Any Tata Sky HD users facing the same problem? I am on 1080i, facing the same thing on 720p also.
Or, does this have something to with the bigger screen? I really wish I can give you a screenshot comparison, the difference is night and day

I am using Tata Sky HD+ with samsung 5 series 40 inch LED. No issues with them. I find the HD quality awesome.

I am using TS HD+ with 42" Pana C10 plasma. I have no issues. I remember I calibrated TV after 3 months of usage using some downloaded patterns. So brightness, contrast, color, sharpness, tint were set for individual input source connected to TV. So far last 2 years its doing great.

Yes...Panasonic is good for me too, but for samsung dont know whats wrong.
Maybe its got somehting to do with the size:confused:

Can someone suggest which package to take on Tata Sky HD? I am thining to go with Supreme Sports Kid+HD Gold Package

Samsung PS51D550 (D550 PDP) Plasma 3D TV Review

looks like there is a firmware upgrade available to fix this issue. I believe it is an issue with the TV and not DTH service provider/STB.

You are right, I found the same review some days back.
I didn't think the issue was with Tata Sky either but just wanted to confirm.
However the latest firmware 1024 is not yet available on the India website, will have to wait it out..

Dear Friends,
iam Planing to Buy Tatasky +, is it a Good Buy @3999/-What about HD Quality? Users Pls. Suggest.

Regards
Jeffin

Hi Jeffin,

Tata Sky and Airtel are the best names to go for, you cant go wrong with either of them. HD quality will remain the same across DTH providers, as long as you use HDMI to hook it up. The standard HD format is 1080i which is broadcast across all DTH platforms.

Also both Airtel and TS supports 5.1 audio so anytime you want to upgrade to a 5.1 Home Theatre system, you are ready for it!!!

I would suggest to study the packages for both and then go for the one that gives you all your channels. Ref HD channels, they keep increasing and its only a matter of time when there will be greater HD content available. However, MOVIES NOW is only shown on Airtel and not TS.

All the best!!!

TS has now announced a new HD Cricket channel -wef 14 Oct. for the England series. What happened to ESPN ?
Can anyone add info on the Tata Sky plans for HD broadcast expansion?

I suggest to go in for mega lite package costing Rs.5500. You get all channels and no price escalations for 1 year + 12 showcase movies free + no relocation charges etc.

There are many active channels which may be of interest to you.

HD is Stunning on Airtel. Never saw TataSky.
Kittu should know.

Will let you know tomorrow as HD activation takes little more time. SD is definitely better in airtel, no doubt any channel/regional pack.

Airtel hd channels volume is little low other than NGC HD ... SD channels most of them are very low/avg except times now, maa tv and mtv . Some channels have clipping sound all the time.
