Tata Sky HD software update (old version)

Thank you for your help. Now all i need is a decent coaxial cable.
You don't need to buy a "decent" coax cable, any spare AV cable at home will do.

Also, I am told by TS that there should be a software upgrade in the coming few days to fix the issue.

what A/C cable are u talking abt component cables?
Any RCA to RCA cable. Stereo, Composite or Component. Doesn't matter as they all give error free Digital Audio. You could make one yourself at home if you dont have any. Like if you have an stereo headphone to RCA cables, you could cut them from one end to get rid of stereo headphone socket and instead join the White and Red RCA cables to have a makeshift "coaxial" Digital Audio cable.

All will give practically the same result without any loss in quality.

This DD5.1 HDMI issue on the part of Tata sky is simply irritating to say the least. Hope they fix it soon. Anybody have info on when Tatasky plan to implement this? Btw if you guys noticed, they claim 7.1 DD surround sound on their website now. Anyone getting that using their coaxials? on any of the HD channels that is.

It is not possible to get 7.1 audio from a SPDIF coaxial or optical connection. At the least, a HDMI 1.3 connection is required for 7.1 audio. In any case, the current HD channels are broadcasting in 5.1 audio only.

So in other words, until they fix the HDMI Audio bug, their claim of supporting 7.1DD+ is INVALID.

okay so guys need a little help here. I connected my TS HD stb via hdmi to my tv and my tv is connected via an optical digital cable (spdif) to my avr (onkyo 3300). But no DD 5.1 for me. I changed the settings in the tata sky menu to "dolby" but its still not working. Whats wrong with this arrangement?

Hi
you have to change the optical connection.
It should be from STB to AVR.

BTW the screenshot that you have posted.
Is that real?

but whats the problem with my tv being connected to the avr? And now i tried to conect my stb to my avr via rca cable ( red and white ones) and still no DD 5.1?
And yeah the screenshot is for real :D

Hi here is my set up and i get DD 5.1
Tatasky DVR>HDMI>TV
Tatasky DVR>OPtical cable>AVR

Thanks

Okay so it seems I need a spdif connection directly from the stb to the avr. The Tv-to-avr ( via spdif) wont work, right? This is a bummer since i need that one spdif cable for my media player watching. Now I may have to buy another one of those cables.

Optical or Coaxial, either of the two will give you Dolby Digital 5.1 if connected directly from STB to AVR. For Coaxial, you just need a "SINGLE" RCA cable connected, not the double red-and-white which you have mentioned. Just connect a single cable from the Coaxial output on the STB to the coaxial input on your AVR. One of the red or white cables will also do, but just one of them, not both, and do not connect to the red-and-white jacks. The Coaxial is orange on the STB and on your AVR.

He seemed to have connected Analog Stereo (composite) connection from STB and expecting DD5.1 out of it :yahoo:

waveking - TS HD currently has a bug of sending DD5.1 through HDMI. Also, most of the TVs do not relay DD5.1 coming through HDMI through their optical output. Your AVR seems to be HDMI capable, so best bet would be to connect the HDMI cable from STB (AFTER DD5.1 bug gets resolved) or use one of the RCA (Red or White as suggested by zervinb) to the coaxial input of your AVR. I expected you to be more rationale about these things being associated with IIT Kanpur ;) Kidding...

Pardon my ignorance people its just that these sort of things require experience and money which I am low on because of still being a student. Anyways I'll try connecting those rca cable to my avr. I'll let u knwo if it works.

My Tata Sky HD is updated till Mar 23 2011 (Receiver software version). Is this latest one. Please confirm. I see Tatasky logo on all channel. Thanks in advance.
