Hi Guys,

Just bought the AVR Onkyo TX-SR313 as part of my first budget HT set-up.

The Onkyo has a front USB port, but to my dismay its not compatible with my first generation iPod Classic.
Before I try to solve this problem, could not get consensus on these questions. Please help!

1. Connecting the iPod to the AVR thru 30pin to USB versus 3.5mm earphone to the L/R RCA audio in's - will there be a difference in sound quality?

2. Buying a regular audio CD and playing on my Marantz UD5005 versus downloading the mp3 at 320kps and playing through the AVR or the player's USB port - will there be a difference in sound quality?

3. After downloading high resolution music from the net - playing it through USB (AVR or player)versus burning on a CD and playing this on the player - will there be a difference in sound quality?

Thanks!

It depends on the quality of the DAC of the avr or the player you use.

1. When using avr usb, the decoding is done by the avr where as when the 3.5mm of iPod is used the decoding is done by the player. Try which one sounds better.

2. CD will sound better than 320kbps downloads. Instead of mp3, use FLAC. I'm not sure whether the avr or marantz will play FLAC.

3. I doubt whether the avr or cdp will be able to play High resolution audio.
