Tower speakers for Denon 1911

You wont be damaging speakers unless you wire them in power socket.. or touch max volume dont worry try it out and do post your observations .. I ll try next :p .

Actually, this is not entirely correct. If the speakers are rated to handle more power than what the amplifier can produce, and if you increase the volume to too high a level, then the amplifier will not be able to produce required power demanded by speakers and will start clipping. Clipping is bad for speakers and it can blow the tweeters. It is for this reason that most recommend to buy an amplifier that can produce more power than what the speakers can handle. A powerful amplifier can drive most speakers with authority and without clipping / distortion.

Given the Paradigm's max power rating of 180Watts, I'd advise Blue Floyd to be cautious. So when you try higher volume levels and if you hear any abnormal sounds then it is time to immediately turn the volume down.

In fact, I was of the thought that the speaker power should always be greater than the amp's. I thought that if I drive a 150W amp onto a 100W speaker, it would damage the speaker, wouldn't it? I am not getting the funda, sorry guys

Please guide me to some article that will help me understand this?

if amp power is too much higher than the speaker then it can burn the speaker coil

If the amp is so underpowered that you overdrive the amp to get higher volume and this overdrive will result in clipping and resultant spkr destruction

these are the both extremes and one should find the balance between these two

Thanks @ kittu

the article says, the RMS and peak power of the speaker should be the same as the amp, but practically thats a difficult thing to match alongwith all the other things we look for in a speaker(like type of sound, clarity, etc.)

Does anyone know what is the range (higher and lower) for matching amp and speaker ?

Now a NEW idea ........ bridging :)

does anyone know if its possible to bridge two amps of the avr 1910/1911to supply the speakers?

What will be the effects if done?

HI,

I just bought the Paradigm Monitor 9s. I feel that for the money they are the best Bang for the Buck. Lovely controllable highs, sweeping mids and good taut lows (need a sub though). At 50k a pair, im extremely happy with them. And oh..not to forget, they are highly sensitive at 96dBm.
Might wanna consider these too

I returned my Jamo S606es. Felt that the Paradigms were much much better. And they are of course. Dont need a very powerful amp to drive 'em

Im driving the Paradigms with the Marantz NR 1501. I feel its a bit underpowered but I cant upgrade anytime soon. Will have to wait. Also I like the look of the Marantz CD Player and amp side by side. Will post pix soon.

I auditioned the Monitor 7s but the Monitor 9s sounded fuller. Also heard a Modaunt Short and Canton pair (costing close to a lac) but the Monitor 9s sounded much better thanks to the sensitivity (96dBm). Also heard Wharfedales but no comparison. Jamo S718 was also good but after all these I was still inclined to the Paradigm Monitor 9s. Music and movies sounded great on it at least to my ears and I wanted to buy something that I liked to hear.

unfortunately monitor 9s are not available for auditioning in Pune

I guess Monitor 9s are a no-brainer for budget audiophiles. For the price they offer decent audiophile quality. The Jamo S606es are good but they sort of grow on you and I felt an urgent urge to upgrade. The Jamos have good bass extension due to the 8" woofer but then I ultimately have to turn on my Sub most of the time. The monitor 9s don't have the bass like the Jamos but then everything else is in a totally different league.

I had heard the Jamos earlier and felt the same way you did, hence Jamos were out.

between the monitor 9 and 7, the price difference is about 12k....would definitely like to hear the 9 before committing to spending that kind of additional money.
also, my room size is about 13x13 which is not big and am powering the speakers directly through the AVR (90Watts pc), keeping this in mind,I am really not very sure I would be able to do justice to the speakers.
