Using SBI virtual Credit card on amazon.com

I have doubts whether VCCs work on international shopping sites. They will work on domestic sites however.

The FAQ says the card can be used in Indian merchant sites. I have doubts if it will work in international sites.

10. Where can I use my Virtual Card?

You can use your Virtual Card at all merchant websites in India that accept VISA/ MasterCard Debit Cards as a payment option (payment in Indian Rupee). However, sites such as the adult entertainment-sites, gambling-sites, etc, have been prohibited.

I sent an e-mail to SBI questioning the VCC use in amazon.com. Here is the answer.

Thank you for contacting State Bank, Virtual Card Team.



We would like to inform you that you can only use SBI virtual card at Indian merchants and the website which you have mentioned in trail mail is not an Indian merchant, so you cannot use the virtual card at that website. The Card can be used to shop online only at any Indian merchant's website that accepts visa cards and currency in Indian Rupees(INR) not with foreign merchant.

We request you to please use State Bank Virtual Cards on Indian Merchant Websites.

I don't understand the RBI's policy to discourage Indian Debit cards Credit cards to discourage purchase from abroad. Now even New Credit card holders will not be able to buy from internet sites like amazon.com newegg.com etc. read here > http://trak.in/tags/business/2013/03/11/new-debit-credit-card-rbi-rules-dis-allow-international-usage/
Now if these websites are operating in india like amazon.in they can't sell directly.

RBI wants to start another Swadeshi movement by forcing people to boycott all foreign website purchase ?!?

My Kotak Netcard worked once on ebay.uk & I got my BDp.It didnt work for amazon & ebay.com.

Why dont you use Paypal. Its easy and convenient. Also Paypal gives you security against CC theft. But I am not sure if you can attach a VCC to Paypal.

Paypal is not accepted on Amazon because it is a payment system of a rival company (Ebay).

Also direct paypal transfer is not possible with many Banks.only credit card option.
