After setting up my Turntable and Phonostage, I am satisfied with them. Next thing. which I feel to have one is a Vacuum Record cleaning machine (No DIY). My LP numbers are around 250 (90% from used market and 10% new) and they are likely to increase further regularly.
Presently I have a Knosti manual cleaning machine and cleaned around 50% of the records (balance is yet to be cleaned). Knosti do a fairly reasonable job and removes dirt. But I experienced that the LPs cleaned by vacuum cleaning machine produce better top end and better sound. I have checked myself with two identical LPs - one cleaned in Nitty Gritty RCM and one cleaned with my Knosti played in Manav's TT. The difference in sound was distinct.
So, the common thinking that when the LP numbers crosses say around 500, then only it makes sense to go for RCM - is not always correct. Rather vacuum RCM is better to arrange in the beginning, specially when one collects most of his records from Used market.
The common brands of vacuum RCM are :
VPI
Nitty Gritty
Okki Nokki
Need your input / suggestions about their comparative advantages/disadvantages, availability in India, prices etc. I have heard that VPI machines are costlier but better build. To me the effectiveness of vacuum and ease of use is the most important factor.
Need your suggestions please..
Regards
