Hello friends,

I have connected yamaha AVR HTR 3065 to Hathway STB. I get satisfactory volume from from LR and center but extremely low audible volume from surrounds.

I have done proper YAPO calibration two times but there is no improvement.

I have also tried to override calibration by changing level of the surround manually but still surround level is very low. Any pointers for this problem?

Have you tried another source? A Blu-ray or a DVD disk or another source that you are sure has proper audio content. I wouldn't put my faith on TV channels to test my setup.

Hi

Hathway STB is know to provide low output and this can only improve when you increase the volume of the STB remote....this is through personal experience as i use Hathway's HD STB....

I have given Digital Out through Coaxial from STB to the AVR to take advantage of the few HD channels which sometime offer DD or DD+

HDMI out is given straight to the TV....

Thanks.

MY Hathway STB don't have coaxial. But from the settings I can enable DD or DD+ for HDMI.

So Hathway=> HDMI => AVR => TV

But you have advantage for non DD programs AVR can be switched off.

See, STBs wont give you proper 5.1 surround sounds rather it will give you downmixed surround which will higher in the front stage.

So you will definitely get proper sound from all channels if you play movies from your bluray player or through USB.

Hi ISO

Hathway keeps changing the STB and i am sure you can possibly look out for a pre owned one (if available) which has CoAxial out too.....

The HD STB can be used also as SD only if required....

If there is a proper DD or DD+ signal from the STB, it lights up on my Marantz AVR.....

Try playing a 5.1 track from a Blu ray/ DVD player. TV signals are generally compressed and are not full 5.1.
You might also want to check how the surround speakers perform if you select the 5 channel enhanced mode in your Yamaha AVR.
