What is sony's specific contribution in LCD and Plasma TVs,can I know?
IS SONY HAVING THEIR OWN LCD PANELS MAKING FACILITY? TILL LAST CHECKED IT WAS NO..
COMING BACK TO DISPLAYS <APART FROM SALES ( TAHT TO CURRENT QUARTERS) CAN YOU ENLIGHTENS US ALL THE NEW TECHNOLOGY MADE BY SONY?
Sony doesn't make their own lcd panel(except for mobile phones,cameras,music players etc) ,but they do have joint venture with 2 companies Samsung & Sharp for large size lcd panels.
Their panels still use custom backlight,color filter,coatings etc.
In a tv the panel is only a part of a story ,its rest of the electronics that makes the difference b/w a first tier company & a third tier company.
So the contribution they make is for themself.
They abandoned the FED display a rival tech to plasma & lcd ,they still are working on OLED.
On the current Led lcd they are also getting their own white led ,RGB led modules and prototypes was shown in many expos,which will enable them to make the led tv even thinner with local dimming.
They were the worlds first to launch a Led lcd tv way back in 04.They never called it LED tv a name started by samsung.
Ipod is made by apple ..it is INDEPENDANT company

Ipod is designed by apple,they defenitely don't make the lcd ,memory etc.
Walkman wasn't selling like it did in those analog days,but this year they have taken back the lead in sales for the first time in japan surpassing apple.
till last year Playstation division was making losses ( can anyone pinpoint to current figures?) that is in loss for 2-3 years for a product ..great!! The king of consoles was wiii..not made by sony.
Playstation along with its flatscreen tv business finaly are supposedly making profits from this year.
Btw microsoft to made a loss on the xbox hardware for a long while.
Sonys oled screens never arrived in commercial existance.
Neither has any other manufacturer,Oled is just to expensive and still have some issues with panel life.
In AVRs although data is not available ,looking at ads ( in us and british mags) sony appears to be a smaller player.
No idea how all this relates to this thread,but yes you can't win them all.A/v reciever market is quite small.
y is indias no 1 selling LCD that's it. but want to know about advanced markets ,and global markets? any numbers to confirm...
They are no2 in world wide lcd sales.
and sony is NOT there in media players market , despite owing columbia worlds biggest online and offline music store is itunes, sony is struggling in e book readers and sony- erricsson is not great with sales ( last numbers i got then blackberry a niche mfg was outselling SE , but mobile market is difficult to predict)
Even dedicated mobile makers like nokia had their bad times,i think they posted losses to.
