I am shifting by ISP from Tata Indicom to Airtel and I would need to buy a modem.

So, I am planning to buy a N router for better speed and coverage and either discard the G Wireless Access Point or use it in conjunction with the N router for increased coverage (if thats possible)

I know that in most of the routers, you need N450 or more for gigabit wireless. Which is something I dont need now, but is it worth doing such future planning esp. I am assuming in a few years, these would become much cheaper.

So which one makes sense - N150,N150+, N300? I am using the Belkin routers as reference.

Also, do brands matter a lot, my old one was a D-Link, but I saw a brand called TP-Link @ 1900

Or Wait for Netgear Dual band ADSL + 1G + Wifi N (600 Mbps) wirelsse router - DGND 3700. Its still not available though. Expected to come in the indian market by Mid June.

Tru...expected somewhere arnd 8-9k. But this baby takes care of your requirement for the next 3-5 yrs. Including smooth HD streaming anywhere from the home, since it uses Dual Band [2.4 & 5Ghz]. There wont be any interference from other home appliances.

Not sure about wireless N routers, but when I was comparing routers about six months ago, I didn't see any particular advantage of N over G for my requirements. I bought the cisco wrt54gl, which is a pretty popular router which lets you install open source firmware. That opens up quite a few options for customizing/tinkering with your router if you are into or it, or even curious about it.

Well again it depends on the need. I own a media streamer/player, where you can stream HD movies at 35 - 54 Mpbs, so the wireless router has to play a big part in this. Or else you will end up in video stutter. Again Netgear also has customizable firmwares in the market. But since this is a new model, it might come out later in the year i reckon..
