I can stream from my Hard disk to my TV smoothly, no issues. But if I try watch HD from the internet, that is not smooth enough. That is a factor of the broadband rather than the router. I need to move up to full 2 MBPS connection at least, I am right now at 1.5.

I'm based in ludhiana Punjab and the max broadband speed is 2 Mbps here but they're planning to increase upto 8 Mbps soon. So, I got the latest standard of wifi router "AC" which can transmit data at astonishing 1.75 Gbps (provided your equipment supports it). The model name is Asus RT-AC66U and I got it for 14.1k from eBay under a deal discount of 3.9k discount from the actual mrp of 18k. Of course current tech doesn't support it but its the future in 2013 IMO. Also, I've another dsl 2mbps connection at my home connected to a TPLink "N" wifi router (2.2k)and I must say that HD video streaming from even youtube is way better in terms of buffering speed. If I had access to that speed, I would definitely go for the said model. I read that your budget is 7k but just wanted to share my bit of info
Still not able to decide on this. Can anyone tell how is ASUS RT-N53? In bay it Rs-6199. Or any other model? Because of the router I can't watch movies forge update the firmware of bdt-220. Present distance from laptop/modem to my HDTV/BDP is about 3 mtr, without any wall in between. My net download speed 11.5 mbps (per service providers sites speed test and per other standard site, 5-6 mbps! Not sure which one is correct).

I think DLNA streaming quality is also dependent on the media server software. I'd my laptop running a virtual WiFi (hotspot b/g - 54mbps). And my samsung TV was connected using the standard samsung branded N WiFi dongle. With AllShare and Windows 7's DLNA server's I did not get good results. But with Mezzmo - The ultimate media server for streaming movies, music and photos to your UPnP and DLNA devices I got excellent results. I've even streamed a 20GB 3d sbs rip of Avatar without even the slightest hint of jitter. But do note that I was not running anything else that used the network on my laptop, plus it was placed pretty close to the TV.
If you try to do the math it works out pretty fine:
Avatar 20GB rip - 162min. That's roughly an average bitrate of 16.8 Mbps. So if that 54mbps hotspot is dedicated for the TV and pretty close enough to not have much practical bandwidth loss.
But its still a better experience to use my HTPC for a lot of reasons. To name a few: FF and Rewind etc over DLNA is slow, browsing for my movies is slow, my TV doesn't do HD audio over ARC etc.

Like all smart apps, DLNA is also a hype. Granted that it is more useful than other smart (dumb?) apps but why not connect an HDD directly to TV via USB? What spend insane amount (such as over 6K) for something that will be infrequently used?

For what purpose?Hmm. For this I've ordered 20ft HDMI. But not sure how useful the 20ft HDMI will be
I use DLNA very effectively. Extremely useful in a multi-room setup. I use Powerline Ethernet for connectivity. I have two hard drives (plugged into a Raspberry Pi) in a central location. WDTVLive hub on one TV and a PS3 on another TV.
So the WDTV acts as a hub for all media (including the stuff on remote hard drives), so decoding is not an issue. The PS3 runs as a gaming machine on the second TV and also picks up the movies from the WDTV Hub.
