Xbox external hard drive limitations

I own a Xbox box one(1TB). I own a 4TB ext hard drive which consists of movies majorly. I play it using Kodi or VLC through the Xbox. Recently, my external hard drive has been full till 2TB and now when I try to add a video file to the external hard drive, it doesn't play it on any of the media players in Xbox one. The old files have no issues in being played but the new files added to the hard drive are the ones which I am unable to play. Can suggestions on how it can be resolved?

Probably that video file is in a format that the Xbox doesn’t support.
