Yamaha Speaker and Subwoofer Owners Thread

Hello Ns-sw300 owners, how are the subs performing for you? Does it become better? Any issues or problems?
I am contemplating between the yamaha and the Bic F12. Does anyone here have experiencing both?

From what I read, the yamaha's size, tight bass, cost seems to be it's plus.
Bic mostly excels in louder deeper bass, and the generous warranty period, but costs almost 10k higher. Just wondering I'd it's worth it.

Also, what's the warranty period given for the sw300? Is it 1 or 2 years?
You have rightly judged but one major difference the yamaha can go down till 20Hz whereas BIC 12 can go down till 25Hz .

Yamaha Warranty for Sub is 1 year only .

I am using it for an year and fully happy with its performance

Thanks, did you get a chance to measure it in real-time? A couple use reviews I've read say that the SW300 only goes as low as 30Hz in their setup. Just wondering if they didn't get something right.
Also, the 1 year is a bit scary. I've had some bad experiences with AV Receivers post the 1st year. Only if the warranty had been a little higher, I would've had no confusion.

HI All,

Help Required. I am looking to purchase NS-SW300, the lowest price I am getting is 30500, can anyone please guide, form where thye have purhcased the sub and at what cost. Also I am getting a BIC-PL200 , 1.5 year old at 35k , so would it better to go for BIC or a new yamaha. MY setup is Sony STR-DN850 and Energy Take Classic 5.0 speakers. My usage would be 80% Music and 20% Movies.

If it’s the Bic pl-200-ii latest model which is front ported 30k is the right price given it is in excellent condition.35 is very high as the seller himself would have got it for 36-38k only. If it’s the previous model which is rear ported 25k assuming the seller got it for 33-35k. If seller is not willing to come down, go for a new subwoofer spending little extra amount. Look at 12 inches from Bic,Taga harmony, Polk and mission. All these will be available in 40k range. Sw300 should cost around 28-30k

Since your music listening is 80% you should go with sw300 as it has the servo thingy.

Congrats on the SW300. They are an absolute treat for music if you set them up correctly. I had it for a couple of years and it served me well.
I own two and i could not be happier. Decided to pay a tad more for two rather than a single bic and i think i made the right choice. I have them two feet off walls on carpeted floors, the bass response is pretty neat.

I just noticed you’re in Shillong. Greetings from Assam :) (though I’m based in Delhi).

Any noticeable change on the performance while setting the option on Phase and BASS . On Auto Standby is works very good .

Also did anyone test the difference in Input 1 -3 . @Kkiikkoo Thanks for taking this point.

As i have been using it from the day 1 with Input 3 (LFE ) dint though of the other two options :)

Hi all, I bought a Yamaha NS-SW300. I find that during very deep bass, subwoofer rattles. Not sure if any sw300 owner realized? I went through several forums, some other owners facing the same issue. A very good example is opening scene of Edge of Tomorrow.

I am writing this review of yamaha SW300 after 2 weeks of usage and How My search started

My Existing setup was Yamaha NSF71 which are Tower speaker for FL & FR .I had upgraded my Onkyo 3400 speaker with these Yamaha and try to use the Onkyo Sub to this setup .These are Passive Sub and dint even notice these Sub is working are not .So i removed them and was happy with the Bass from my Tower Speakers .
Reading through some of the post i realised that the Low frequency can not been experienced with my tower so thought of adding a entry level Active Sub to my setup .While exploring many options i found many of them was not satisfied with the Low end Sub as they are Muddy / Rumbling beyond some volume and will spoil the Audio experience .
So i decided to invest in something which will be at least in some mid segment which will improve my Movie experience with advice of many FM . Then i started auditing Sub & dint get chance to explore more but Polk 660,XTZ 12( which was out of my Budget ) & BIC F12 . These sub where good and was able to deliver good Bass .But someone ask me to check Yamaha SW300 as they got some good reviews comparing these models and dint have much user by that time to get a review about the product personally .

I just concluded my search through the reviews from Amazon.com and experts .Also it suit my Budget very well and was able to source it locally .

Review
In meantime I also got my AVR updated with Yamaha RXV585 which was unexpected :) due to some fault in my old AVR .The setup experience of my Sub went very smooth .
* I was limited to one particular location due to some Constraints so i placed the Sub there .
* Just connected the sub cable from LFE Port to Sub port in AVR .Luckily i was having my Bandridge cable which i bought long back.
* Set the Crossover to 100 % and Volume to 50 % as per instruction .
* Connected the MIc to AVR and finished my calibration .
* My Speakers where set to Crossover 80 and Sub Setting is set to -9 Db based on my Room Dimension later changed to -6 DB
The AVR done a good job calibrating my Sub . I tried playing some Some Bluray movies which are more familiar to me the . The experience was outstanding even in my Untreated room .There was no rumbling and Bass was very Smooth .This has taken my movie experience to a different level. My Front Speaker has more clarity on the Mid notes which is an add On .

My Music experience on these were also good as I was Listening to some of the ARR tracks which was a Mind Blowing experience . Truly Speaking i just came to know the various Jonners of low notes in Music which was amazing . If this has been a normal Sub i would has just heard Boom sound .

I feel the price i have send has truly been justified by its performance . Thanks to all FM who has supported and Guided me on this Purchase .
Hi, can you try to test opening scene of Edge of Tomorrow? See how it goes.

Besides having a sub which is commonly used, specs, placement of the sub, media content and even settings play a big role...so check all that.

Hi, below is my setting. I place sub at different positions, they are all the same.
1. Sub SW300 setting:
* Volume knob: 12 o'clock (5 as per manual instruction)
* Phase: Tried Norm & Rev. Both the same. Now set ar Rev.
* High Cut: Set to max.
* Bass: Movie
* Connection: Input 3 LFE (High Cut has no effect on Input 3)

2. AVR setting after Auto Cal:
* Speaker level for Sub: -6dB
* LPF for LFE: 120Hz
* Crossover for all speakers: 80Hz
* Master Vol for movie: -15dB Relative

3. Media Source (MKV & M2TS):
* Edge of Tomorrow - DTS-HD MA 7.1 (Opening Scene causes rattle)
* Ready Player One - DTS-HD MA 5.1 & Dolby Atmos (Catalyst is detonated leads to long explosion, causing rattle)
* Dolby Atmos Amaze Demo (Thunder scene casing rattle)
* Many more movies with low and deep bass.

Note: I sit next to sub during simulation.
