your view on SONY IV-300 5.1 HT system

Hi rish..
My opinion is if u want very good audio experience ,please don't go for this system (it is a basic consumer model) .There are various other brands like Yamaha,Denon,Onkyo,Pioneer which will give u very good audio experience and they are particularly involved only in manufacture of audio systems. The members in this forum can help u ,if u listout ur exact requirement i.e, ur budget ..room size etc.In my experience ,U should have a minimum budget of 25~35k to acquire some basic models of the above listed brands.

Even i am looking for reviews on the Sony IV300. I feel its a simply and smaller setup compared to the others.

rish,

Please tell me your budget?
There are many good HTBs available in the market from the specialists like Denon, Yamaha, Pioneer etc.

Eagerly looking forward to your review of the IV300.... The small form factor and out of the box compatibility with the DTH boxes seem like a great advantage!

1000 watts ????? :O :O :O.. raw 500 watts is sufficient for a big theater.. I think you are trying to bring your whole area down.:p

watts ka koi value hi nahi :p :p

Hi Vibhs19

Congratulations on your purchase. Based on the testing you have done, it seems SONY has launched a good Home Theatre entry level product in the market which appeals to some who have a budget....I was browsing through the technical aspects mentioned and noticed that the impedance is 3 ohms for all speakers except the centre speaker which is at 6 ohms...this is the technical current load factor which is part of power output. This system is indeed compact and hence would be called as HTiB (Home Theatre in a Box). The only drawback here is that if something goes wrong, the entire console needs to be sent for servicing or repairs.....secondly such HTiBs as time flies don't have easy spares available....I recall some of my friends facing challenges from SONY / Panasonic for replacement of circuit boards which are discontinued and no more available....you then land up purchasing a new HTiB or buying a refurbished replacement....this is the hard reality....

Denon, Pioneer, Yamaha etc have their AVRs + speakers rated at 6 ohms and above and if you listen carefully there will be a spectrum of difference in terms of depth, sound frequencies produced and clarity. Such entry level Home Theatres cost anything from 25k onwards....

I don't intend to dampen your happiness but would like to caution you on the limitations of HTiBs....end of the day....at HFV we are here to provide some level of advise and guidance...it all depends on what appeals to you in performance and budget.

Congratulations on your purchase.

1) Does your system do DTSHD-MA or Dolby HD decoding? What are the other HD audio decoding formats it supports?

2) DTS and dolby digital are old hat and it has been there for nearly a decade.

3) What is the watts in RMS according to your manual?

4) Is the subwoofer powered or non powered?

5) Does this subwoofer carry individual adjustments or does just a wire go from the receiver to the subwoofer?

I tried the technical specification page in the Sony website, it does not even open!!!

Thanks

Vinod

HI

Thank you very much yes it is a entry level system but it deliverers some serious sound (listen to believe it ) and my budget was also a consideration i already had a home theater but acttacing it to tatasky+hd was bit costly buying an amp or avr of onkyo or poineer etc so at first i drop the plan then this system from sony caught my eye yes the ohms a less but imy room is 12 by 8 n sony is best for it n gives more than satisfactory result coming faulty of system there r two cooling fan in it n sony too gives quality in ened of the of day i jus want satisfactory movie exp with pure 5.1 sound it ive it nicely n i dont want to open PVR at home by buying bulky noisy system lol

The wattage is quoted at 30% and i presume that is the distortion level. Then it is too high and this way the companies snare people who donot read beyond the watts figure. Even 1% distortion is not acceptable if you are serious about good quality sound. You go through the quoted figures of output of brands like Denon, Yamaha etc. at various distortion levels and you will understand. So the wattage at 1% or below that would be comparatively less.

That said this system may be good keeping in view the ease of operation and plethora of facilities provided if you are satisfied with a ok kind of sound experience. Anyway, keep us posted of your listening impressions as you go along.
