Hi Friends..

This is my first post to the forum...
I am in big confusion now...
Hope you expert guys can help me out here...

I have bought an LG 32" FULL HD LED TV recently.
And I m planning to take Airtel HD DVR settop box too.
Here is the problem...
I do have an old LG 5.1 home theater. Not a great one.. just an ordinary one with 4 ohm speakers..
And since it is an old one.. it doesn't have the HDMI or S/PDIF input capabilities. So.. I am confused about what to do for getting 5.1 surround on my HD channels..

I did some research and found a few china items online..
1) Hifi MOCHA MT-20 MT 20 5.1 CH Digital Audio Sound Decoder : $110
2) 5.1 Sound Audio Decoder HD Rush Gear HDMI : $70
3) HiFi MOCHA JY-M2 5.1 CH Digital Audio Sound Decoder : $137
4) HDV-18A 5.1 Digital Audio Decoder Digital Sound Decode : $100

All these are some decoders which takes the S/PDIF inputs and give 6 different speaker outputs for 5.1 channels.

But now I am again confused whether these equipments just do a decoding or will it do an amplification too ?
Actually my need is to connect s/pdif out put of my set top box to some equipment which gives 6 speaker outputs which I can directly connect to my 4 ohm speakers ( with out a home theater in between)

Guys .. will this work ?

Or do I need to do some thing more to get this done ?

Thanks,
Johnson

Decoder is not a amplifier & so you need either 5 ch amp OR 3 stereo amps to drive speakers.

Thnx for the reply... My knowledge sucks.. :-(
Can you suggest some thing cheap (under $200) which does the work for me ?
I am not an audiophile... a basic quality 5.1 sound is good enough for me.

HTIB is a good option its seems.. need to see which one are available in market now.

Btw... my speakers are of 4 ohms.
Can I pair the AVRs with that ? (If I buy one)
I can see most of the AVRs supports 6 ohms onwards..

Ok.. I can up the budget a little bit.
So... now the hunt is for a decent entry level AVR.
But I have couple of questions..
1) I do have my old speakers of 4 ohm. Can this be used with the AVRs ?
I can see that most of the AVRs support only from 6 ohms.
Will it be OK if I pair it with 4 ohm speakers ?
2) Now a days most of the AVRs coming with 7.1.. I guess.
My home setup is only for 5.1.
So I f I buy a 7.1 AVR (to be future ready) , what can I do with the 2 extra speaker outputs which I can't plug in to 5.1 ?
3) Will there be any decent entry level AVRs which do video upscaling as well ?
