I do not see the need for a separate thread. Have merged the two. If you want to write a detailed review of you system, you can create a review thread. Otherwise stick to this thread.

Cheers

Jatin, I think you are the first owner of emotiva speakers on the forum. How do they sound compared to others you have heard?

Lets start with my options with what was available here and why I went with Emotiva.

My choice was Dali Ikon 6, Vokal 2 and Ikon Surrounds Price 1.14 L
Sub was SVS PC12 NSD price 55.8 K
Denon 3311 76400 to 80 K

Then there was a sale going on for Emotiva speakers
Sale Price
SPKR 8.3 6.3 ERD-1
USD 1278 479 319 Total 2076

P Ratio 0.615607 0.2307 0.1537

INR 95425.23 35766 23819 Total 155010

Regular Price

SPKR 8.3 6.3 ERD-1
USD 1598 599 399 Total 2596

P Ratio 0.615562 0.2307 0.1537

INR 119318.9 44726 29792 Total 193837

So going by regular rate they were costing me 1.93 L which was way too much but sale and difference of 30 K b/w Dali and Emotiva prompted me to go for EMO. Specs were great and they were bound to match with XPA.

After so many reviews for UMC1 my heart was set on it. Got it for 45.5 K and Also 3 RCA Emotiva ultra cable for 2 K.
Initially I ran UMC1 with my sony HTIB via RCA cable . Could not believe my ears that those crappy amp and Speakers could do so well. Had High Hopes since Speakers were lying for more than 3 weeks unpacked.

Sub SVS was 55.8 K but Emo SUB was 429 $ at sale it costed me 35 K in India , 300 Watt musical sub was too good to resist. The problem came when I saw to my horror it was 110 V, I call Sarah in Emotiva and she confirmed it was only device in EMO stable to run on 110. So I went to Lajpat rai market and picked 1.5 KV 220 to 110 Step down Transformer of GURU for 4100 . Its working fine. It is a trusted brand here and my uncle who is in electrical field swears by it for last 20 years. Let me tell you its built like a tank and very heavy.
Total Cost of Sub 35.5 + 4100 = 39,600.
Also picked a 50 W 220 to 110 for my Blu-ray player.

Then came bad news XPA5 became out of stock, had to wait 2 weeks to get it ordered.
XPA 5 costed Rs. 68995 . Its the heaviest item in my rack and was difficult to put alone but my impatience got more of me and I put it in alone. My back told a different story when I went to sleep at night.

Van damme UP LC 50 M cables SYW 7340 RS
Sony Blu-ray 380 SYW 7348 RS + 570 ( 50 W transformer)
Mediabridge 25 Ft sub cable dual shielded SYW - 1298

It has been 3 days now when the setup is complete. It is improving minute by minute.

The speaker placement on day one was such that sound was not impressive. Had to fiddle with Crossover and distance. Angles. Sub placement.
After some reading on net, Put Speakers 8 Ft apart and Approx 1.5 Ft from Back wall and changed Sub placement from Left to Right . Ran EMO q several times and wallah instant nirvana.
Will play around more but my room does not allows it.

I cannot convey in words how it sounds, Mid range, high range , boomy bass and so on but I like the sound.
Crank the volume a little and you can here effortlessly the sounds which went unnoticed before.
The best part it its a great 2 channel system for music only, Jagjeet singh Gazals and Gulam Ali sang like never before.

A direct comparison to lower costing speakers will not be good,
Compared to Dali ikon 6 and PSB T6 , Jamo C609, Paradigm Monitor 9, MA RX series , AAD and Quad, EMo is ofcouse better.

In the similar cost range Jamo C809 at 1.3 Lacks a pair were also no comparison as emo wins out right but you have to consider that it was fed with Marantz 7005.

In EMO Forums the speakers in comparison to EMO is BW 803. Read today that BW803 is 7.5 Lacks so I can't say much. Never heard BW.

Dedicated room is a distant dream, Will cost > 10 Lacks to construct the floor above. Add acoustic cost to it. So my plan is 5 years..

Blu-Ray Update

Delivery of TDK and Casino Royale Blu-ray was completed today.

TDK - 728.32 Rs
Casino Royale- 763.52 Rs

Both Region Free...

It was amazing to watch both movies in Loss less audio and full Blu-ray Quality. ( I have a 10 GB rips of both movies with DD and DTS for comparison).

Sony Blu-ray PQ is amazing and it doubles up as NTFS HDD connected can play MKV movies with DTS and DD, but not Tru HD or DTS MA clips. At 8K not a bad deal I would say.....

Congratulations Jatin. It was a great decision to buy Emotiva gear. But it was very bold to buy emotiva speakers without auditioning. I am in dual mind since a year about buying ERT-8.3.( I have XPA-3, USP-1 & XDA-1). But never had a courage buy speakers costing @ 1 Lac without auditioning. Your feedback is taking me in those directions. Waiting for discount time....:)
