5.1. Search Ending With Emotiva Setup

I was buying UMC1 and XPA5 without Auditions and Reviews only so why not ERTs.
Anyway sale just pushed me to do so. At retail price would never have thought about it.

Some Observations.

UMC1: There is absolutely no audio Drop , no center channel drop. Audio Quality is superb. Only fault is that when I forward or rewind from Xtreamer, it takes some moments to lock onto Audio , Which is a little irritant, Otherwise if you are watching movies in one go it poses no issues. EMO-Q is spot on and sets speaker distance and corssover perfectly but only sub distance is little off, that can be set manually or can be left at that.

Audio: Since there is something that needs burn in I dont know which one UMC/XPA/Speakers or Wire for that matter but sound is improving day by day. . Especially 2 channel music, ie my FLAC collection has come to life. Even FM sounds excellent.

But now the Neighbors have started complaining that sound is too much especially at night :)

I especially like Video Songs of Hindi Movies and slowly have a collection of HD with DD or DTS songs. For some songs I fell like getting immersed in music and completely get lost in the song. I like it ......

For Movies its good too but let me post some impressios woth Loss less tracks.

Casino Royale was excellent but I am not so impressed with TDK, The track there is DD tru HD and is at less than 2 MBps, Has any one else noticed it, It lacks the Punch thereof but is better than DD in my HD Rip.

I did some tinkering and got the sample for DTS-MA clip for Transformers, The MKV didn't played but I converted it to m2ts and it played perfectly well on my Sony Blu - ray player via USB Pen-drive. The clip was only 100 MB on FAT32 but Since Sony now supports NTFS, I am Downloading DTS-MA Movie of transformer. So it should play it well.

Now I don't need to buy any new Media Player since all Loss less movies will now be played on Sony Blu-ray, In 8 K I got the Blu-Ray player as well as a good mediaplayer for Lossless audio. I am happy :)

And I see your thread now :) Lol
Congrats on your purchase, the Guru is exactly identical to what I got ;)

Impressive setup... and like said before you need a dedicated professional HT room. It is a must for such expensive equipment.

Where do you put up, I would love to come there sometime for a demo. Your description of Hindi movies and songs and you getting immersed is getting too tempting....

Now I am all motivated to go for my speaker set ASAP.

Room limitations are there, but we have to live with what we get.

Space is a premium in Delhi, The room Contains One Dewan cum Bed( Dewan pulls into a bed), Two small bed sides tables, One Dressing table with Mirror, PC Table and Two Steel Almirahs.

There are 3 gates to the room , all iron and all with Drapes.

Bedroom is separate on the same floor.

Maybe one day on floor above there will be a dedicated room, Alas have to save money for that. It will be > 20 Lacks the way I spend.

I live in Rohini , Delhi. All are most welcome to visit...Just drop me a PM

How could you possibly buy something without auditioning? Are you floating on cash or something? Even if you did its simply beyond me to buy equipment without listening to them. I have not heard anything from Emotiva & good reviews are not enough for me to close my eyes and buy them. For the sort of budget you had, I would take my time and listen to a range of equipment before I put down money.

No risk .... no glory !
Victory goes only to the Brave !

Our friend here has too much disposable funds to play around with. If I had his funding, I too would have bought blind ............. :p

I never asked your opinion, its my wish how I spend my money.

My general experience with blind buy has been good so I took a risk.
Anyways the only risk was Speakers, The Amp and Processor are well regarded.

Also for say a 3 lakh budget what would you have gone have , its interesting. I spent around 2 months auditioning what was available in Delhi

I have a 300 watts per channel amp and a splendid AV, for 1.15 Lacks, Which other AVR would you propose .

You call this brave? I think it was stupid. How on earth can someone splurge money on something without an audition? I had accompanied a friend recently on his hunt for the perfect stereo solution. It was not easy. Brands that were highly rated in reviews sounded trash due to improper pairing and god knows what else. Its not about being brave. You need to listen to equipment before you purchase. There is so much equipment one can buy but you don't just dump your hard earned or even free money on something just because some reviewer said nice things about it. This is quality audio equipment. It can go horribly wrong if you don't audition.

you have to understand that your thinking might not be same for me. Its my decision and my risk. I never asked your opinion. In case you have questions about my setup ask, otherwise keep your opinions to yourself. I will not comment further on this topic.

Jatin, don't get upset. Of course, its your money and you can spend it any way you like. I like how you've described that you've had good experience with blind buys before. At least there was a precedence to your actions.

However, the point Sandeep is trying to make is also valid - it is pretty bold to put down a substantial sum of money based solely on well regarded reviews.

Everyone is bound to have their own methods and I'm glad yours worked out well. To answer your question about a setup within a 3L budget, I would have preferred an Usher setup which I can audition here in Bangalore over Emo.

I think I have a right to post what I feel so its not the question of whether you asked for my opinion. Its clear to me you have a truck load of cash but common maan....a blind buy just because you have had luck in the past with buying av and even pointers from this forum? Does not work for me.

Sure you have 300 watts. This in no way means its quality watts. 300 watts for such little money is not something I would close my eyes, ears and just buy because it sounded fantastic on paper. 300 watts for such little money just does not sound right to me.

I have not auditioned anything in home theater to recommend. Once again, I have nothing against your purchase. Its the way you went about it. A blind buy. This is wrong.

I have heard Usher Book Shelves with Usher 6 channel Amp, the Amp was 4000 Dollars. The Bookshelves would need a stand too . X718 is 1200 Dollars new with 250 Dollars for stand. Don't remember the price but sound was excellent. CP6311 were unavailable for Demo.

What I am trying to say is that In delhi , places to Demo are limited. I demoed what I could.

That certainly can be a limiting factor. It's sad that the capital city has so few places to get a good demo. Another forum member is also struggling to buy his setup for a similar reason.

You might be surprised to know that there is a chap in Bangalore who offers Emotiva products. Sandeep, RoC and myself are hoping to get a demo soon. We're interested to see what the setup sounds like.

Everyone can make their views but judging somebody's decision stupid is not fair. I would say Jatin made a wise decision to buy Emotiva.

I am not a cashrich man but after reading so many rave reviews about Emotiva XPA-2, i have decided to buy it some day without auditioning when finances permits so.

Congrats Jatin on your puchase.

Lokesh From HT store. But his prices are way over what I got directly from Emotiva. But you can demo that's a good thing.

I never said his decision was stupid. Please read my post again, carefully this time. I used the word bold. There is a huge difference. I'm sure even Jatin will agree that it was a bold move.

Anyway, let's put this discussion to rest now.

Jatin - First thing I would do in order to do up your AV room is to work on lighting. A few well placed lamps with soft diffuse lighting (get ones you can dim to suit your mojo) will work wonders! Next would be carpeting/throw rugs. Lastly, you can spend money on your walls. All the best!

I did not meant your comments. It was Sandeep's comments.

I have 2, 15 W CFLs of which I use only 1 while viewing.

Carpet is there, but I will get a large one to cover major area.

Advice, Do I need to place small rugs below speakers, Speakers already have a rig to support.

For walls what is the proposal, Acoustic Dampeners ?
