Hi Guys,

I am looking for a 8" woofer with a low Fs around 25Hz and a high Xmax (p-p) around 12mm or Max Linear Excursion of 20mm or more.

Can anyone suggest a woofer with above specs in the market these days? dont mind picking up as second hand either.

B Rgds,
Raj.

Cannot get from your post whether you want a sub or a regular woofer. 12mm p-p Xmax is quite manageable but 20mm linear is firmly in sub territory.

If you explain your application, (projected use, enclosure size, alignment) and expectation from the end result, might be easier to recommend.

Please contact BBw distributors in Delhi for seas. They are dealers for seas and keep some home audio stuff. I have purchased seas from them and was very happy with their frankness and transparency and speed.
All the best

Hi Kapvin,

This is for a open baffle experiment. hence the requirement for a low Fs and high Xmax! This driver will be doing duty from about 850-800 Hz to 40Hz.

Can you give me the contact details for BBw Distributors?

Appreciate the help!

Raj.

I have no experience of Ob but my sense is that it requires a driver with high qts. And also unless you are looking at an active system, it requires high efficiency drivers. 40hz is pretty ambitious for for an 8" unless sub and active or you are happy with really low listening levels.
For an 8" sub the first thing that comes to mind is the jbl gto which pretty close to specs you listed. You can get it jbl car audio dealer in India

You will need to rethink crossover points though

For BBw, google them or check out their Facebook page. I think gunbir is on the forum, but I am not sure.

Hi Rajagopal,
I can fabricate a custom driver for you as to what you are looking for. I have in stock some American cones that can travel that much. If you are interested, I can further get into more details.

I am fortunate enough to have learnt a thing or two about OBs. Firstly, you need not look for a Fs<=25hz driver if the lowest you want to go is 40 hz. Next, I'd choose not to strain a (sub)woofer upto 800 hz. I'd be more comfortable upto 250-300 hz, the lower the better.
Next, there's much more to OB bass than just Xmax and Fs. You need to move a whole lot of air in the lower octaves and for that you need cone surface area or volume displacement and a reckonable amount of power to move those large cones back and forth.
I'll try and share more of whatever little I know, as we progress but for now, if its an experiment, then don't think of using expensive drivers initially.
