Hi fellow members,

Despite keeping the room clean and dry, managed to get a couple of dust blobs on the projector, in fact there are many. It appears on dark scenes and is visible during the start up process when the screen is black.

Have anyone opened up a DLP projector and cleaned the dust blobs?

Can you guys advice on what to do and what not? possible links with pictures of cleaning up etc.

Me and my bro are DIY guys and can assemble/ dissemble with care and precision.

Thanks,
Prem

Thanks spiro, the second video is about replacing the chip, anyways, was helpful in how to open the projector.

I contacted a projector repair firm here in Bangalore, they straight away told me, sir the DMD chip is gone. This is how service centers work, if you aren't careful or a bit tech savvy, you will get ripped.

It is working fine harshi_n, the spots are visible only when the screen is extremely dark. I haven't opened the projector yet.

Spiro, there is no issues with the DMD chip, it is just dust blobs and require cleaning. The DMD chip is intact, the service guys were trying to rip.

local projector guys can fix it.. also did you clean the filters on the side.. if they are choked then the air might be pulled from other end collecting dust..

there are 2 foam type filters on either side.. pull them out from both side and clean them as well..

Hi Prem,

All the best for the cleaning process. Will really help if you can record the whole process and upload it on YouTube!

jsanand, I may not clean it myself as I feel it may further complicate. For now, living with the dust blob. I will find a good repair guy and then if the prices are sane, will get it cleaned.

Me too have the same issue in dark scenes. But i wonder why the dust blobs affect only black scenes, not the other ones. Every other scene is too good.

subbubsk, how did you get the dust blob so soon? I am sure there may be guys in SP road, Bangalore who may be able to sort it out.

I have setup the proj in living room. Where it is prone to heavy dust. I also have the dark scenes with complete fade of colours. But otherwise gr8 pq as usual.

Hi HFVians / Subbu,

Got a small firm who has agreed to clean the dust blobs for Rs. 1000. He seemed quite knowledgeable and they are original service agents for Sharp and some other brand.

He said will take around an hour for the job. Let us see how this goes.

Hi Prem can u pls post the pic with dust blobs appearing in dark scene. Now im not getting those in dark scenes. May be due to picture source i got those dark scene cloud effects.

Subbu, my camera doesn't capture it.

Today, I have given it for cleaning, got it back and waiting to reach home and test the same. Will update by tomorrow. The service guy told, the brightness levels will also improve and advised this cleaning once in 6 months. They said they an AMC too...

The issue got fixed, glad to find a firm which exclusively deals with projector repair alone. Very good people to deal with and they are close to my wife's work place. So sent it with her and they collected it and gave it back to her. The guy said nice projector and good video quality.

So the dust blob issue/ service issues are solved.
