Hi Guys

I wanted to buy a Home Theater System for myself and after almost a week of reading numerous reviews, going through countless forum posts on various forums including this one, i have finally settled on getting one of the following Onkyo offerings.

Model No. | SYW FLP | EGB | Local
HT-S3300 | N.A | N.A| 25k
HT-S5300 | 39k |40k |50K
HT-S6300 | 44k |44.8k |N.A

Shop your world is charging around 8-9k overweight charges which is bringing the price up considerably and with no warranty makes it quite unattractive. On the other hand buying these locally with warranty is working out to be quite expensive. I'm confused as to which way to go :(

Additionally i was wondering if it was a good idea to buy one of the Onkyo receivers separately from the US, as these are quite light and the overweight charges won't exceed the 1-3k mark.
And then buy just the speakers and sub-woofer from India as they are quite heavy.
Options for the receivers include TX-SR508 and TX-SR608

Budget is around the 25-40k mark for everything. (Sweet spot is 30K)
Minimum Requirements:
3 HDMi inputs
DTS MA decoding
HDMI pass through

Usage:
60% Movies/Anime/TV shows all in SD or 720/1080P
20% Gaming on the PS3 and XBOX 360
10% Tata Sky for watching football
10% Music

Looking forward to your suggestions

Cheers

I'm also now looking at the Yamaha receivers now. The 567 and the 667 models.
Any suggestions on a 5.1 or 7.1 speaker setup for the above receivers?
Budget for the same is around 15 to 30K.

Since your usage is more on movie and games, IMO get a 7.1 HTIB. Also music is only 10%, hence you may not require AVR + speakers combo, which may work out to be costly for you. Right now Onkyo HT-S5300 looks sufficient for your need and budget. If you are not much worried about warranty (its personal choice), check in grey market before taking online shopping route. Advantages are a)You will see the product b4 paying money b) you can get atleast 1 or 2 days warranty from the shop keeper, which many do give c) Most probably such goods are from east asian countries and will be suitable for 230V

If you decide to buy online, check the price of HT-S5300 from amazon.co.uk through SYW, that way you will get the HTIB compatable with 230V. If you buy from ebay GEB or amazon.com, you will need a quality step down transformer, which will add to your budget by atleast Rs.3000

There is no point in buying Onkyo HTiB from USA/UK through shopyourworld.com since the extra weight of sub-woofer and speakers would make the price unattractive , also speaker prices in India are not so high in comparison to USA/UK.

You can however get the receiver from US though shopyourworld.com. looking at your tight budget and also the fact that up conversion in not your requirement you should drop Onkyo- SR608 from your list and include Pioneer VSX 820-k and VSX520-K .
VSX 820-k is available for Rs 13100+ custom+ extra weigh which should come to around Rs18K delivered from shopyourworld.com. VSX 520-k is available from 16.4K from global ebay.

In the remaining 22K-24K , it would not be very easy to find a decent 5.1 speaker . you could look for energy take classic 5.1 , which was available for 25K till last month .

If you can't stretch your budget the best bet would be to go for Onkyo 3300 which meets your needs and is available for around 23K-25K .

Which one of these have you auditioned?

Since you are based in Gurgaon, go to Metropolitan Mall and you will be able to audition almost all the brands on second floor - right from Onkyo, Bose, Jamo, Harmon Kardon, JBL, Sherwood, Yamaha, etc. The 2 floors have almost the entire range.

I had a budget of 25K and am a happy owner of Onkyo 3300. It definitely does not match the Jamo setup I saw in the Metropolitan mall but it did cost half the price.

We on the forum can suggest you, but better is if you go an listen to each of these systems and then decide what suits your pocket and room size.

Happy Shopping and a Happy New Year!

Thanks guys for the smart suggestions :)

I have sort of changed my mind and increased my budget to 40-60k for now.
Will be going to the MGF Mall and auditioning a slew of receivers and speakers.
Lets see how it goes.

Also have decided to look at the the yamaha range of receivers as they seem to be good and have a lot of positive reviews. the vx667 model in particular.

Seasons greetings to all.
Cheers

I'm not that familiar with all the models but my baby..

ONKYO HTS6200 is an amzing HTIB...:D

I use my blu-ray, SUN HD & my media player with it & altogether it rocks :yahoo:

I got it for Rs 47,000 last year here in Chennai from ONKYO dealer itself...

Just check with them before deciding...

cheers :)

Hey Sathish :p
Unfortunately the HT-6300 (Update to your HTiB) is not available locally and the one available is 5300 for around 48k.

If you have the time could you check locally if the HT-6300 is available and the price for the same?

Thanks a ton :)

5300 is only available in chennai onkyo currently........
i checked couple of moths back, they said 6200 model has been phased out and they didn't know anything abt 6300 that time.......

go for avr+speaker package route than htib ...

Hey I just checked with the people @ ONKYO, they don't have 6200 or 6300 model...

But the 5300 model is a better model then my 6200, according to the people at ONKYO the main advantage of the 5300 model over mine is

* Wooden Speakers
* Support for 3D :ohyeah:

This is the onfo I got...

Good luck with your HTIB search :)

Cheers

when buying yamaha please check the rms rating with respect to the THD
the rms number is comparable to other brands but that rms is at a very high thd rating when compared to the others
its an important point to note

Well i demoed both the 5300 and 300 Onkyo HTiB offerings at the MGF mall today.
I have settled on the 3300 for now as it is half the price of the 5300.

Can someone tell me the best price possible for the 3300 here in Delhi/Gurgaon?

Cheers Guys :)

Check this thread.
http://www.hifivision.com/home-theater-box/12591-home-theatre-below-25k-group-buy.html

We purchased in Gurgaon as a group Buy. Have sent you my email. Can check with the dealer if one more piece can be made available at that price. Let me know if you want that route - it may take time if stock is not available with him. I got my set after almost a month - but was in no hurry!

There are others in the forum who have got the set from CR Park dealer (address and contact on Onkyo website) for 23K. Do not mention this price to the MGF dealer it wont help.

Went ahead and picked up the 3300 from the CR Park fellow.
Have paid him 20k, lets see how much more he asks for :p

Bought this baby home, unpacked it, hooked it up and listening to it right now.
AWESOME SAUCE! :D

Thanks guys for all your input. Helped me tons.
