advise on projector

I am in process of aquiring 46 led for my room.
But i want to hav a look at these projectors..
My room dimensions are 10*13*10 feet l*b*h..
My source will be brrips 5,1.BRs etc
There are two windows and door on same wall (longer side)
There is lot of natural light in my room even after curtains.
I devote almost 2 hours on an avg. daily watching (movies/seasons and all)
Viewing distance will be 8-12 feet..
Plz advice me a projector as per my req above .keeping in my budget is arnd 50k.
Also i wud like to know that aftrt how many hours of operation the lense of the same must be changed..

If you are yet to decide between LED TV / projetor. Why not get both? Start with a good LED TV and a used projector. Later on update projector when you feel so.

I watch a 120" 16:9 screen from a distance of 11-12 feet and i love it. I don't observe pixelation even in DVDs. If you need longer hdmi cables (like 20 feet and above) buy it from amazon.com through ishopinternational. Works out much cheaper (i paid Rs 2700 for 35 feet hdmi cable). I bought aurum brand, but people say bluerigger is better (in terms of build quality - about pic quality i don't think there is going to be difference)

One more advice from personal experience. Before i got my PJ, i thought 3D is a must have and that i would use it a lot. Truth is, i don't watch 3D movies at all even though i have a huge collection. It is not about eye strain or anything but just that i don't enjoy them as much as i thought i would.
So be cautioned, if you are anything like me, you are better off buying one of those non 3d but awesome in other aspects PJs.
I'd like to hear what other projector owners think about this.

TV is good for watching in day time, with doors/ windows open. you may not be able to get the same out of a projector. you would need a pitch black room, or a light controlled room.

I'm planning to add a projector+screen(8x6feet) to my HT setup. My 7.1setup consists of Onkyo 609 & wharfedale 9.6+Jamo101. I don't have cable TV or STB in our house. The use of projecor is only for movies and 90% in night. Usage will be mostly in weekends, 2movies min per week. Source will be laptop with HDMI or DVD player fed to AVR. HDMI out from AVR will be fed to projector.

Hall size is 14x16feet(LxW). Distance between couch and screen will be 14feet. Screen will be infront of TV and in between front floor standers and behind center speaker. I plan to use 8x6feet manual pull out screen. Projector can be fixed in ceiling mount (in this case distance to screen can be 5feet or 9feet) or wall mount where the distance to screen will be 14feet.

Here are my queries. I have referred projector price list from deltapage.com
1) Can I use 300-500lumens LED projector (1280x800resol) to project video to screen which is at 14feet. The image size expected is min 8x6feet. Usage at night.
2) What are the constraints in increasing the distance between projector and screen.
3) Is it DLP projector different from LED projector?
4) Which is better ceiling or wall mount? cost. can I buy from ebay?
5) What is short throw projector? Can I place projector with 5feet gap and expect 8x6feet image. This is to avoid mount + wiring cost.
6) Can I buy screen from ebay or which is best place to buy in bangalore?

I would prefer setup to be one time and no adjustment during its usage.

Sorry for gate crashing in to this post. Please let me know if any of my assumption(above) is wrong.

I am not into 3d viewing ..infact i dont enjoy these in theaters also too dark and difficult to keep up the pace with fast moving scenes.only movies directed from the likes of ..james camroon spealberg peter jackson are good to watch in 3d ..which i will be watching in cinema anyways..
So my point is..i may not need this 3d feature as much.but pq is primary concern as i told in my post that there is lot of natural light in my room..and wont be able to make it pitch black in daytime.
Please advise the pj along with price as per above requirment and also projector mount and hdmi cable my room dimension are 10*13*10 l*b*h .i will be projecting on 10*10 wall so if i mount the pj on opposite wall the distance will be 12-13 feet.

I have similar requirement, refer my post below. I'm thinking of using LG PB60G which can project images up to 100 inches diagonal. Check the image size specifics in projectorcentral website. Let me know if you have seen it anywere.

I'm not sure if this reply is intended for me. Anyways
Can some one provide feedback about optoma ml300. Its an LED with WXGA resolution and can produce image diagonal of 100+inches. Will it suit my purpose?

led projectors are not in a stage to compete with bulb pjs...
maybe in near future it will happen,,not now..at least

Today I had a LG salesman at my home to give a demo on LG PB60G(500lum) and PA70G(700lum). The output is awesome except that room lightning has to be 90+% dark. I get 10x4.5 feet image at 16:9ratio at WXGA resol. The output is awesome at max brightness and near perfect at medium brightness. The built in USB port detects almost all files in my HDD too. Only thing I notice is fan sound is high at med brightness.

The reason behind LED is life, output, heat and power consumption. Also LED can withstand some amount of power cut which the bulb models may require an UPS to give time to switch off which my dealer has suggested. cost of 500lumen model is 42k & 700lumen model is 51k which is a bomb and I'm working on it. warranty is 3years for whole unit.

say 3 cinemas a week..10 hours..520 hours yearly..so 8 years..long time..within the time maybe the ehole unit will be scrap.

cost..i cannot agree..there are optoma/epson bulb models under 45k..

power cons..i dont agree..just calculate it on real time basis..

output!!! bulb walas eat up any led wala

but if you are satisfied with the 500 lum LG model..very good..go for it..its important to satsfy yourself than suggestions and specs..

and lumen matters..with high lum models you can play with brightness setting,which will give good blacks even with low cost pjs

Distance between projector and wall(used to test image size) was 14-15feet. But in the beginning I used high brightness and full contrast, later I reverted to medium settings. But heat dissipation was more. Another model in my mind was optoma ml500.

I understand that LCD makes with higher lumens will outperform LED guys in a room with external lightning ON. Also I don't believe the 30000hours lamp life. But I do presume it should last monger than bulb makes.

other things, the demo guy suggested me to paint the portion of wall to white rather than using a foldable screen, but I have a TV mounted in wall and I can't relocate it.

to answer your queries
1) Bulbs do need just even a minute to cool, but when there is a powercut, the bulb projector faces the worst.

2) My requirement is to go for a WXGA(1280x800) resolution projector, the price difference for a bulb based projector and LED is less. Source: deltapage.

3) Bulb Vs LED projectors may be compared with CRT computer monitor and LED monitor. When it comes to image depth and clarity, I always vouch for CRT.


Please provide your feedback on LG PB60G, PA70G and optoma ML500.
