An evening spent 'tweaking' Avidyarthy's ATL Speakers

Mumbaiz freaking expensive ......... speaker finishing is costing virtually 30-40% of the overall cost, thats what Hari informed last night. So, planning to get the unfurnished speakers to Delhi and getting the veneer/polishing done here. My carpenter here does a fair quaility work, if not abso top notch.

Should have come to know of the cost implications earlier, then, could have gotten them units earlier. Now, have to wait out the period till Hari comes back from his vacations.

BTW, Hari ......... where to ....... Swiss Alps ... Black Forest?

Guys ... let the speakers come in ......... everyones welcome!

All the vendors think theyre at par with international standards but truth is quality of good workmanship with wood is almost lost in major cities. They charge you a bomb then deliver crap and the avg person dosnt even know good workmanship so they pay and vendors get away with it.

Since good quality thin veneers and people to install them are hard to find in india (and expensive), here's an option you can think of using A good quality normal veneer and maybe rexene/leatherite/glossy black paint

the pic above givesn an idea of what a black leather surface would look like with the brown veneer. Not saying you have to put pleather on the face/carpet area but you can use it for the top rounding and use a cloth cover for the front to cover the drivers.

Waiting for a A-B comparison for the thiel vs ATL. :D
The two speakers avid favored.. ;)

thiels are here - thanks Blasto for the great deal pointer. We will have to rely on memory for A/B as these would be tough to carry around.

Will listen more and let you know. NAD C375 is a very good amp and it does drive thiels very well. Comparing with the 2.8L bryston power amp, it wasn't far away.

Denny refused a home audition - only piece left, too many people in the queue, not making much money on the deal etc were his reason.
I would definitely audition some amps over a period of time - but strictly home audition - wondering who would be able to give me that.

Hopefully my visa gets approved then I can bring back my jamo d830's during vacation and we can do a speaker a+b+c comparison! :D

Infact we should make it into a delhi meet at someones house in south delhi or close to mehrauli. Gatecrash at Avidyarthy anyone?

Completed the 'electricals' in the room today. Bought a 4 KVA V-Guard voltage stabilizer, 15 A sockets, plugs, heavy gauge cables etc. and called over the electrician to do the needful.

The accessible electrical point was a mere 5 A, which could not have been sufficient to handle the power draw of the Krell rated @ 1800 W (peak). Hence, had to run a cable (11 m approx.) from a 15 A point.

The endless wait for the custom-built rack is still continuing. My carpenter has been delaying this since the last 1 month stating that his 'kaarigars' have not returned from their break. Maybe, this is what is inducing me to get the speaker furnishing (part vinyl sheet and the rest veneer polish) done from Mumbai itself, before dispatch.

Who is going to co-ordinate this activity if them speakers turn up unfurnished in an empty house? Family would split for vacations during the summer break by end May!

I have planned by this week end. Please PM me your transporters detail, your postal address for delivery. Will let you know the final packing & finishing cost after its done.

Cheers,

Hopefully, the long wait for the speaker 'dispatch' date comes to an end. They should be ready for dispatch by Monday afternoon ... all packed and ready to make the long journey up North.

I would need to speak to the local logistics company tomorrow to send the guys across to Hari's place for collecting the consignment. Now, need to see if all is co-ordinated correct ....... it had been a long patient wait!

indeed a long wait, not just for you, for many of us, who are ready to overwhelm Hari with requests for speakers.

ME would be induced to 'hear' your Thiel 1.6 after that, as well as the VA Beethoven Baby Grands in case they remain in Chandigarh by then (so, Chandigarh is the place for a short visit). Already have heard the fab Dalis at Aashish's place with a splendid amp.

Now, for the most important activity of all .... SAFE TRANSIT!

AVd, so at last now the chance to tell "Congrats".. Hope it will reach you safely and look forward to see your happiness in writing and posting photos after the long wait.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
