Intended to buy ATC-SCM11 speakers very soon in new year and thereafter my 1 month old KEF Q300 will be on sale. Its really field of interest where sky is the limit !!

But, I am really disappointed with kind of audition/demo available in India even in city like Mumbai. Whether you go to audiovision, lakozy, cinebels etc. etc., they have very very limited combinations of amp and speakers which really lead to wasteful expenditure in future like in my case where continued upgradations are solely on account of this !! Really wished to visit UK before intending for any further upgradation, which would certainly save my money substantially !!!!

I have been consistently reading on various forums the amplifier volume needs to be pumped up to above medium level for ATC SCM11's to sound their best. That means at low to medium volume levels they sound lean and unbalanced.
Even I'm in look out for new speakers but would be mostly considering ex-display or used as the saving is considerably huge. A year old used ones in mint condition on ebay UK go for about 500. That is the reason I couldn't dare to buy the ATC's as I can't play the music louder all the time.

Please enlighten if any one has a different experience playing ATC's at lower to medium volumes.

HI Raj,

The moment I saw NAD amp in your set up with a Audiolab Cdp, I knew that you had chosen an incorrect amp. In 3 days I sold my NAD. I found it to be a complete bloating machine. No offense to NAD owners, this is only my opinion.

Stereophile described the C375BEE as competition crusher and HiFi Choice gave a Best Buy award.
I wonder how they come out with such statements
I also read concerns from users of other forums that 6 moons giving raving reviews for every review they do.

This can be due to low sensitivity of speakers.ATC SCM19 has mere 85 whereas Q300 has 87db.So Raj consider this point too.

No, the answer I found its not because of lower sensitivity but because of sealed cabinet design. All sealed cabinet designs tend to have this behavior but are easy on placement.

Thats right. I have had ATC SCM11s for a while, paired with a powerful Pioneer SPEC 4 power amp. The speakers never inpressed me as such. These do sound clean and neutral, but sound closed in and lifeless in low volumes (normal home listening levels). This might also be partly due to the sealed design, where the bass is clean but not as loud as a ported speaker. So you really need to turn up the volume to be able to get some good dynamics and depth from these speakers.

I would suggest you audition these speakers first before buying to avoid any disappointments.
