Hi I recently bought a Onkyo TX 608 from a friend. It's a 110 US model, and I wanted to know what power spec Step down I need to buy.

Behind the AVR it says 120V @ 60Hz 6.3Amps

Kindly tell me what I should tell the electronics shop person. Also, what would the likely cost be?

Thanks

You require 620Watts for the receiver (100x2 Front, 100x2 Surround and 160 Central). You add subwoofer power requirement (if it is also from US). For safe side you buy a converter of 1.5 times of your requirement. I use NR609 and SW-SKW770 and total requirement is 730 Watts. I use 2KVA converter with built in stabilizer, time delay (optional) etc. as I have other 120v devices like LCD TV....
Another simple formula:
Converting Amps to Watts

The conversion of Amps to Watts at fixed voltage is governed by the equation Watts = Amps x Volts

For example 1 amp * 110 volts = 110 watts
