Asus O!Play Mini with DolbyTHD decoding, DTS HD-MA for just 3500!!

eagerly waiting for a review of the o play mini more specifically to know if it can passthrough DTS MA and if yes from a mkv ext also? If the ans is affirmative nothings like it!
Please unleash the review quickly!

I spoke to few people around from ASUS / dealers about Mini and seems not many are aware about it. I'm more concerned over it upgradability. To be on a safer side, closed a deal for ASUS HDP-R1 from an ASUS dealer (Ashirwad Computers, SP Road - Mr. Santhosh - 9900 502121 ) in bangalore for Rs 4950 home delivered tomorrow morning.

Based on the review below, it looks a better bargain than Mini

That was extremly fast shipping ,recieved the "mini O play " within a day of payment
bought from here eBay India: Asus O'Play Mini HD Media Player 1080P with 7.1 Audio (item 250778941525 end time 26-Mar-2011 19:18:53 IST)

I have bought this unit mainly for a second plasma TV set up without any external units (AVR/ SPKRs etc etc) so HD audio and net work connectivity isnt an issue for me

The unit is extremely small and light weight you could see it in the palms of my son

Though was eager to see if it does (pass thro) HD audio ,connected it to my main set up, the O play mini is running the latest firmware 1.0.7 right out of the box

The set up is easy though i think the xtreamer is more user friendly and faster

Although the ads and the box claim HD audio pass thro the unit Failed to do so, the HD audio files were downmixed to DTS
in the audio setting i have set the audio output to Hdmi Raw (in other settings the audio was output as stereo or lpcm)
any way at the price its fine for a second set up with a TV nothing more beyond that ,i would prefer the Xtreamer any day over this

If am missing out anything on the audio set up so as to not get HD audio pass through kindly update

3rd pic the main movie file menu shows DTS HD audio but output audio is DTS

Issues -slow response to the remote
- as in xtreamer, with this unit the main movie will not play directly, here the unit digs into each folder until you hit the stream folder and hit play so a little bit of navigating required

-NO HD audio pass thro


For the price @ 3900/-(may be even cheaper by a few hundreds) its the cheapest media player out there as of now, it definetly is worth it

thanks for the review... as reported in iboum, DTS HDMA pass through is not there but atleast it shall handle DTS HD as per the spec. R U getting DTS 5.1 or 2.1 when it converts at the output end.. from DTS HD??//
What about the PQ and SQ for the realtek chipset?? PL throw some light on that and also pl confirm whether this handles atleast dolby true hd.....

NO HD audio pass thro it outputs HD audio as DTS / DD 5.1
PQ is good @ 1080P
SQ is as good as any source outputting standard DTS /DD @ 5.1

Please do.

try with playing all kinds of audio tracks, DTS,DD, DTS MA, DD HD and see if u get output through analog for all.

kindly also confirm play of m2ts or video file from card reader side... my interest is to play SDHC card video from HD digicam which gets stored in m2ts format.
was there any hdmi cable along with the unit? i doubt at the cost, but some sites have reported supply with hdmi cable...

plays M2TS files ripped from original BD's without issues
havent chkd thro card reader
but it did play HD video shot from nikon P-100 witout issues too

also find the FF @ 32X a bit slow
