AVR for best movie experience

USB Music played directly from AVR or audio from TV played on AVR, doesn't have any issues. So does the streaming music, it plays well.

It's only the items which are connected directly through HDMI at the back (bluray/d2h) are having this issue.

Do u have anything else which has HDMI out... Maybe try that and even if that HDMI source gives u that issue then maybe it's HDMI board is the issue... Anyways u gotta call marantz cust care

HDMI board issues with the Marantz 2014 lineup are pretty common.
You should get in touch with the service center which is I think MZ Audio in Mumbai.

It is playing well if all inputs are connected to TV (bluray/d2h) and only the ARC going to ARC port in AVR. It is only if i connect the blu ray or d2h directly to AVR, then there is sound drops.

assuming there might be HDMI board issue (though the ARC HDMI working fine), not sure if they would change the board or would they give a replacement. If they would probably talk about changing the board, i would rather not send it and live with the work around option that I am having right now.

personally i want all to be routed through TV as i don't want my AVR running all the time during the day. However to know one of the option not working (though i may not be using it) is not satisfactory :(

If i understand your query correctly, you have routed all the connections to the AVR & then AVR HDMI ARC -> to TV with HDMI-ARC function right....

Your AVR must have HDMI standby pass thru feature.. If you keep your AVR in stnadby function, it will still route the d2h signals to the TV.....

If u want true DTS HD MA or Dolby True HD sound u need to connect ur bluray or media player to AVR first then let AVR decode these Hi res audio codec, if you connect bluray to tv first and play audio through arc then u might not get Hi res audio and its not ideal setup as well.

Would suggest u get it replaced or get HDMI board replaced for a long term solution... U will face issues whole selling it as well later on

@OP, For the original question, Marantz is very different from the denon and does very well. You will feel the difference with the move.

As you mentioned you are not after fancy features but rock solid performance, In the 1L brand there is Anthem MRX310 which has stripped off features but perform in the 2L range.

I have auditioned the MRX300 and still picking u my jaw.

But the 310 is heavily marked up in India. It is same as the Marantz SR5009 in pricing elsewhere but it costs as much as the SR7009 here in India which is a different league with Doly Atmos and Auro 3D..

I am deciding between these two. Moving from denon to any of these will see night and day difference.

For Dolby atmos we need to have infrastructure also like that for normal home usage 5.1 or 7.1 is sufficient enough.... I auditioned both 5009 and 7009 and the only one feature which dragged to 7009 was Audyssey xt32 whereas my 5009 has Audyssey xt and I must say it's far better that Denon implementation

Sound wise both sounded similar to me in audition hence I saved almost half the money and got 5009.. Am very happy with it both music and movies and DTH HD TV

I thought you are still making the decision. :) Dint know you purchased already since your signature says otherwise. :)

Ya 5009 is kind of no frills AVR and 6009 is actually in no man's land IMO. I am not sure if anyone needs the feature it provides over the 5009, it should have really less sales compared to 5009 but who knows?

Can you point me to a post which lists sound benefits of moving from Denon to Marantz that you might have written? I had the demo of Denon and Marantz side by side and can vouch for the Marantz superiority but many have a hard time believing they sound different since they are from the same company and that they differ only in cosmetics. A real user impression who made the switch from Denon to Marantz will really help clear misconceptions.

If there is n post yet, consider writing one in the leisure.

I think Marantz should have given XT32 in 6009, a 7.2 AVR with 9.2 pre-outs.....

7009 anyways has xt32 9.2 AVR with 11.2 preouts to make it a complete powerhouse....

I google difference between marantz and Denon and found some good technical article stating under the hood difference and chip used which makes marantz superior to denon

If I compare just 1 example then Audyssey implementation is lot difference in them... With same Audyssey xt calibration in same room I am getting much better result in 5009 than was with Denon

I was also confused how there will be one superior as they both come from same parent company but there is very much to my experience

And yeah if 6009 had xt32 I would have got it but it is like 12 13k more with no useful upgrade... 7009 is, but its almost double the price and the extra power and feature I will never use in 7009

Audyssey results being different in Marantz compared to Denon could be due to sound signature which could very well be because of the internal components too...

I guezz Denon is edgy while Marantz is more refined & composed....In an other thread, an other FM said that he felt Audyssey was making his surround speaker was very bright (He had Denon AVR with polk speakers)..

Yes Denon with Audyssey made my speakers very bright and edgy with horrible boost in surrounds but marantz is perfect smooth and we'll suited for movies and music both.. Difference can be spotted instantaneously

Hi Saj:
Please look at Arcam and Rotel AVrs if clean and powerful sound is what you're after.. while these brands might not give all the bells and whistles but they'll surely give you oodles of unadulterated power and musicality .. they are in a different league of AVRs .. but you might have to stretch a bit beyond your budget which you'll not regret in the longer course of the run.

Cheers
Ravi
