B&W 684/MS Mezzo6/MA RX6/Dali Ikon6/Tannoy signature/AV 5.1 set up

Hi guys,

I am a very confused man.intially i started with a budget of 1.0L for a HT setup. with that budget i was advised to go for a Wharfe diamond 9 series setup. (what should i buy/HT set up)
Then i started reading the various threads and posts. slowly i got sucked into the Hi Fi world.
I started going through different websites of the manufacturers. i came to learn about the speakers, their charactors and that each speaker is different even in the same series.
It was at this time that i decided to up my budget to 2.0L - 2.5L(stretching my self to the limit). Now at this budget i have too many choices. its not practically possible for me to audition all of them.

I went through the what hi-fi website and read their reviews. based on their reviews i have short listed some.
Monitor Audio Rx6 AV12(2.40L final from audio people Chennai)
B&W 684,686,HTM62,ASW610(2.13L from audio vision MUMBAI)
Mordaunt short Mezzo 6,5,1,9 (1.96L from SBT hyd)

I also read some good reviews about DALI ZENSOR,DALI IKON 6,TANNOY revolution signature 5.1 set up.

You can understand how confused i am who has just baby stepped into the gigantic world of HI-FI.

Please help me find a suitable set up.

ALSO suggest an suitable AV reciever to go with that.
Even in AV recievers there are bright and warm!!

For MA RX6 the audio people have suggested Marantz 6006 or Pioneer 1021
For MS Mezzo they have suggested Denon 3312 or Marantz 6006.

Fortunately i will be visiting singapore every 10days (FYI I am in shipping)
This time i plan to audition based on your suggestions.

All Hifians please dont wait.!!HELP ME!! hold my hand and guide me. this is something which i shall cherish all my life.

I Think pechetti setup is based 70% for movies

B7W 683 fronts instead of 684's and the rear 685 insead of 685.
Thats what i woul buy . I love the B&W sound i own the 685 bookshelves and they are pretty good. the nautilus driver is fantastic.
I find the B&W's 600's to be fairly neutral speakers not warm neither are they too bright.
However they are way over priced in India.

The Dali Ikon's 6 have Ribbon tweeters Ribbons have an extended feel especially for music which features percussion such as triangles, cymbals etc. They sound better with Jazz, Classical. They sound delicate and balanced in the sweet spot of your listening area. It could help with Movies as well but only marginal. However move away from the sweet spot and you may find something mssing.

However The Dali Zensar Dome tweeters have a better off-axis response. so music/movies will still sound good and uniform if u are not sitting in your sweet spot or have family members skewed around the room

So both are pretty decent.

I am pretty sure there are other Hifiians who will offer up advice as well

Hi all,

I finally managed to do some audition.
I auditioned the DALI Ikon 6 setup with a Onkyo 609.
The sound was pretty good. over all was nice with movie(transformers) and music (maddona concert).

next i auditioned the B&W 684,685,HTM62 and ASW608 with Yamaha 471.
This also sounded pretty nice. this was more refined and gentle.

The next audition was MA RX6,RX1,RXC and RXW12 with a Cayin(chinese).
This was the best audition. here this guy did a comparision between the BX and the RX simultaneously showing the difference between the 2.
First it was only stereo 2.0 with just music, then just only the centre then 5.0 and finally 5.1. another thing is he showed the difference between a RXFX and RX1 BS as sorround. in music mode it sounds horrible.
I was quite impressed with the system.

One thing i have to mention, here in singapore no one likes the di-pole sorrounds and you will not find even one person suggesting them.

Finally i auditioned the MS mezzo 6, mezzo2, mezzo5 and SVS PC-12NSD with Onkyo 609.
The sounds were pretty bright is what i can say. over all it is a nice set up.

One thing i can say is all are good in their places.
MS MEZZO is the brightest of the lot followed by MA RX, DALI IKON and lastly B&W.
This is my observation.

Now this had led to even more confusion. now i am again in a dilema which one to buy.
FYI the price quotes are
DALI IKON6 5.1 setup - SGD 6600
B&W 684,685,HTM62,ASW610 5.1setup - SGD 4600
MA RX6,RX1,RX-C,RXW12 5.1 setup - SGD 4500
MS Mezzo6,Mezzo1,Mezzo5,SVS PC-12NSD - SGD 4100
Add another SGD 450 for Mezzo8.

The SVS sub is SGD 1400.
Next for the reciever quotes

During the audition i liked all of them.so guys help me select one. as in the long run it should not be over bearing on me.
They should be both good in music and movies (50/50). but i think it will be more of music/TV/movies in that order.
i plan to pick the sorrounds, centre and the AVR from here. the fronts and the sub from back home (you know logistics problem).
But as you can see the prices are quite tempting when compared to india.
