Best ever deal for loudspeaker kits.

Thre is one guy in the Audiocircle who is supplying the cabinets in FKD form and offering it for $25. I'm trying to work out if this can be included in the same pallet.
I just read the post on audiocircle reg the cab kit ...It says starting donation is $25 and that the original price is $100 ...a bit confusing . are you sure that the final price is 25$ ?
I think the cabs are available for X-LS and X-Encore ..

how long will the foam based drivers last in indian climatic conditions?

Hi Madurai1974, what exactly did you mean by "Indian climatic conditions" With Danny's emphatic assurance that these speakers would outlast us, I thought this issue has been put to rest.

For the sub and wall mounted surrounds you could consider laying in industrial floor tiles to help dampen the walls of the cabinet, but I am not sure what is available over there.

We have other options like Bitumen sheets / fibreglass lining etc though I'm not sure how would they fare on a one to one comparision with No Rez

You guys have a Lowe's or Home Depot over there? ;)

We have Life Style super market which is part of Home Depot but they don't have such mundane items as industrial tiles.;)

I am thinking about upgrading the fronts to statik and voce to get the "open" sound

Do express your intent clearly so tht we can take stock of the situation.

Hi Captain, I am interested in a X-LS Encore Stereo speaker pair kit. I will also be interested in the Encore X-CS Centre speaker kit if I can get conformation that an AVR like Denon 1911 would support a 3.0 setup (I am a complete noob here as you can obviously see :o so any info would be really appreciated), and the later add the Surrounds and the Sub. If not, then I think I will drop the Center Speaker go in for the SW-12B + SA-1 Sub amp for a 2.1 setup. Thanks & Warm Regards! PS: Please allow me to slip in one more newbie Question.. will an AVR like the Denon 1911 be able tor drive these speakers? PPS: I am in Bangalore.

@Rgn1, you have your answers now, you can take your call but I think your dithering cost you dearly as someone else has expressed his interest before you. I sent him a PM to see if he can upgrade to servo sub at a higher cost so that you can take the non-servo version. Lets see how it turns out.

Thanks Captain, I hope he agrees :). I will take a call on the final set as soon as he responds.

Cheers!

You also have gypsum board( Bison board is a local brand) available that can be used on the inside to dampen the walls -I have used ti and it works very well and is easy to cut with a saw.

But Gypsum board add to internal reflection? It add weight but increases internal echo. We recently had frustrating experience when added gypsum boards on all wall of studio & drilled with 2" X 2" pattern 100m holes. Better to use Tar material use for road and handful of glass wool from AC installation/Refrigerator technician guys.

That is what bitumen sheets are made of. That would surely minimise resonance. In addition, if you use glasswool, it would minimise standing waves I guess.

How much norez required for the fronts and center boxes?
Two sheets to cover them and you'll have a little left over. Maybe even enough to cover most of the front facing wall (the only one that needs it) of the A/V-1RS pair.
for the centrer an N3s (sealed version)( with norez, i am not sure how many sheets)

Not very sure but going by the above posts, it looks like you would need 1 sheet for the N3 centre channel version.

If you see Danny's thread, you will notice that box plan would be supplied. all you'll need is a visit to a competent local carpenter.

Great work, Sir. I am afraid you guys are going to need more than a mere carpenter for cabinet making, esp if the material is mdf, which is what it ought to be for all but the towers.

You see, its like this, a surgeon is a surgeon and no matter how good he is, he can't replace a dental surgeon.

Even when adhering to a detailed plan, there are two things which are very crucial to cabinet construction, one is near-hermetical sealing of the baffle joints and two, the bracing inside. If these are messed up, you mess up the speaker. The lower the driver/enclosure frequency, the more the importance of sealing baffle joints and correct and rigid bracing.

Why not ask Mark of Audiocraft/Craftel if he'll do the cabinets (he has both the experience and the tooling lines, I am sure) in case shipping from up north seems to be adding on overmuch.

Just my two phooti kaudis.

Best Regards

@Trittya,

Yes sir, initially thats what I thought but realised that guys need help in getting the cabinets made too. Hence presently looking for various options. Will surely contact him as well. The most promising prospect is that guy on Audiocircle who says he would supply CKD flat packs for $25 per pair. I contacted him via PM and also seeking Danny's good offices in convincing him. Let's see how things work.

@trittya
you have mentioned about different materials for the cabinet. Does the sound get impacted depending on the material.

@captrajesh
if we get the CKD kits, isnt that only for the fronts, what about the rest of the speakers. also by the looks of the kits, we would need to stain/polish them too. would it be easier to get the whole thing done from one place?

As Mr. George stated, a competent carpenter can do a good job. Even if he does not have experience in making speaker cabinets, the flat pack can act as a reference for him to make the balance stuff as drawings are already available.
