Best ever deal for loudspeaker kits.

Friends,

Those of you who have bought SW-12-04 + A370PEQ Amp, What kind of enclosures are you planning? a sealed box or a sand filled sealed box?

I think the sealed box will weigh min 32 Kg ( I got the mdf sheet today and weighed approx amount of mdf that will be required for sealed box it will be around 16 kgs, and Dennys kit weighs approx the same weight) and the sand filled will weigh approx 13 kgs extra ( 5 kg of sand and 8 kgs for extra 4 panels needed ) so total weight of 45 kgs!

As per Denny Sand filled box will perform better but then I think it may be difficult to move such a heavy box considering most of us may not have dedicated theater rooms and hence sometimes we may have to move the subs so am a bit confused between these to at the moment :-(

Please can you guys share what you are planning?

Regards,
Naren

Mine is a dual woofer sub. I am also having nightmares on sub size and weight. Is there a way to move it around?

This is what I use as far a moving around heavy objects - very handy.

I'm planning a modular approach. sub box will be independent of the plate amp. i.e. the plate amp will be housed in another box while the sub will be sealed on all the 5 sides(yet to decide on ported or sealed ) - trying to mix and match various amps and the subs in the coming days.

Thanks Sbj and ANM,

I guess there around 6 of us who opted for the servo sub kit, what kind of enclosures are other FMs planning?

Capt - I know you too bought the same kit :) what kind of enclosure are you planning?

where are we going to create out individual build threads? Here or audiocircle? More people who have prior experience may be able to pitch in at audiocircle.

anyone have any doubts about the wire for internal wiring danny has provided.
Any opinions on that
I have not read the A circle thread but i bet someone who has can help me out there

have all the builders used Danny's provided wire?
any opinions?

i ask because i find the wire really stiff ( since it is SOLID core - unlike most internal wiring i have seen in Lspeakers)
umm .. i find it pretty similar to the finolex solid core i use for my industrial wiring

got the shipment today at office. It was kept in shade, but sudden rain came and one of the boxes' bottom got wet. I have sent the stuff home with my driver. I will see it when reach home in 2 hours. Getting too nervous. Were the kits in some kind of plastic protection?

My amp & woofer were covered with plastic also the had thermocol on both sides so if your box got little wet it shouldnt be an issue at all

due to the rains, the delhi roads are washed out, and traffic is completely screwed up. I reached home at 10 30, and then since my daughter is not doing well, I spent some time with her, and fell asleep. Started back to office at 8 in the morning. Just transferred it from car to home in the morning before starting for work. Will open it up tonight, hopefully. Wondering what is there in the large rectangular box - plate amp?

Are you guys doing some basic testing of the kit before starting on the build?

reached home last night past 11pm. Had dinner and went to sleep right away. Woke up and left for office again. It is rained cats and dogs yesterday, and all night. people took 3-4 hours to reach home.

there were 3 boxes.
The large rectangular box has 4 no rez sheets. These have adhesive on one side.
Next I opened the box that got a little wet at the bottom. But it was merely moist and water had not entered deeper. It had 2 more boxes inside. Each box had a 12" servo woofer in it. These woofers are quite large, of course not as large as 15" but still quite large :)
Then I opened the final box. There were shredded pieces of papers inside. I took that out, and like needle in haystack, few items came out with it. I realized when I sifted through it.
The SHOCK came when I brought the crossovers out. The bubble wrap was wet, and one who drop of water fell on my foot. How did this happen? Was my package opened by the customs guys? The bottom layer of shredded paper was moist indeed, but the box having subwoofer amp, just above this layer, and otherwise at the bottom of the pile, was absolutely dry, and well packed.
Well all stuff seems dry to me.

Got
- kit for bookshelves - a pair of woofers, tweeters, ports, terminal cup, 2 pairs of sonic caps. I think a set of red/ white wires is for this kit.
- kit for sub - a pair of 12" woofers, plate amp, 4 spikes & spike feet, one power cord. I hope the wires to connect servo coil are inside the plate amp packing, as I have not opened it.
Have repacked the stuff. This is REAL. Finally, the stuff has actually arrived. So time to get out of day dreaming and start practical thinking of getting the kits made.
As per diagrams, the box for bookshelves seems pretty straight forward. It would be the sub where most questions come, and is also higher on priority.

See the start of the thread - Capt posted the deal. Second post - let's start a group buy by me! Never thought Capt would actually take it up and execute it that beautifully.

Have repacked the stuff.

Have you cut open the bubble wrap? What is the state of the contents? Have you used the same (wet) bubble wrap to repack?
