Best ever deal for loudspeaker kits.

Captain - I am also ok with sharing addional cost of 7.5k. If we are 20 of us or so the per head amt will be approx 350 whch is nt a big amt to save ourselves from any probs at later stage when suff lands here.

+1 lets get the IEC if it will help our cause.

I am eagerly and impatiently waiting for the subwoofer. Another night, I almost clicked on JBL 12" on amazon.de but then I held myself back, with faith in this stuff coming over soon.

How much %age of addition? Its okay if <10K. Divide among participants. I thinks comes very less.

I agree with Om, if the cost is <10K, then we should apply for IEC. Since the cost is 7.5K, I am OK if this amount is shared among all participants.

if 7.5K is what we need to put in to avoid last minute surprises, i am all for it.

A couple of our esteemed members have suggested that I visit the customs and apply for the IEC directly. If the cost difference is significant, that can be done provided I can do it without any serious hassles. Let me work on it.

Any update on when would the Orders be shipped out?

At present, we have got a quote from one shipper. A couple of others are working on the quote. Kindly understand that since this is not a routine transaction and also, the cargo is LCL (Less than Container Load) and hence is much more expensive.

I'm giving the details of the one quote that we have got.

Freight.........4115.38 (for 4.115 CBM @ $1000 per CBM)
B/L Fee............45.00
AMS................25.00
SED.................35.00
Doc fee...........75.00
Trucking.......505.20 (@$0.38/per lb)
Insurance.....165.26 (@$10 per 1000 for the consignment costing $16525.51)
TOTAL........4965.84
Converted to INR @ Rs. 50/USD = 248292.00 = 30.05% for a cargo of 826275.50

Customs & duties74487.60
Customs handling..3750.00
Service Charges3000.00
Other charges*.35000.00 (approximate)
TOTAL..................116237.84 = 14.06% for a cargo of 826275.50

Grand total 248292 + 116237.84 = 364529.84 for a cargo of 826275.50 = 44.18%

*Other actual Charges like CFS Charges, DO Charges, any CE Certification charges, loading & unloading (after viewing the cargo only), transportation etc., will be billed w.r.t to supporting receipts.

Capt. Rajesh,

I am not sure if I understand these calculations. Don't the prices quoted for the Kits include shipping and offshore handling ? In such a case the duty will be computed on the Invoice value. Of course the local Port, Shipping agent, transportation, clearing and incidental charges will be in addition to the Customs Duty.

@Jaybe, I'm not sure if you've read my previous post with regard to shipping from Danny. For your convenience, I'm repeating it here in a little more detailed manner. Danny has given us a commitment to absorb shipping cost as he was equating shipping from US to India with that of his own imports from Peerless India. However, the fact is, since all his shipments were "CL cargo" (container load cargo) the shipping per cbm was far cheaper than the present case which is LCL (Less than Container Load)

Since he was unable to get hold of a shipping agent at a competitive rate, he had asked me by way of e-mail to look for some competent company/person.

Accordingly, I had scouted around for some one/company to take up the assignment. Of the companies I had contacted, one has sent a quote which I have listed.

As you can see, Danny is sending us the consignment as CIF (Cost, Insurance & Freight paid) The cost for the same is listed in my first paragraph.

After it lands at Chennai Port, the balance costs which are described in second paragraph is payable which has to be borne by us.

I'm working out the quotations from some other shipping guys also which is taking some time on account of this consignment being a non regular shipment and also, because of Easter etc.

Hope this post has thrown some light on the happenings. I'll keep you guys informed as and when anything new crops up.

Danny got a couple of quotes from the shipping guys I had organised but they are a bit on costlier side. I had shared their costing a couple of posts back. Others are still working on them. In addition, I had also roped in 4-5 members to help us out in finding out shippers; not heard from them either.

All the hassles are because of the nature of shipment which is not by a company but an individual who is representing a group of individuals. None of the shippers seem to have a clue as to how to interpret the rules to take up the work.

One of the members has shared a link on applying for IEC code which I'm sharing here See how overwhelmingly it is loaded towards companies applying for the code.

Cheers

Rajesh

Hats off to your patience and efforts Captain. I totally empathize with what you are going through. I went through hell 2 months ago when my Marantz CD 94 got stuck in customs as it got wrongly categorized as a "Cargo" instead of "Courier". I can't remember how many forms I submitted and resubmitted to DHL... there were that many forms and procedures. Spent 2 half days of leave and went to the customs office...more confusion followed. Finally I gave up when I saw how my CDP was stored in the godown and many days later there was asked to pay some around 8k towards fine, duty, valuation fee etc. I don't even know what the procedure is but I am glad I got my player and is working all fine.

Hey Santhosh I'm happy that your efforts fructified and you could lay your hands on the CDP that now you cherish.

Customs warehousing charges are very heavy which is what I want to avoid.

I was charged Demurrage charges which is the warehouse charge for the delay in releasing the goods. Beware of that.

Forgot to mention, I did not have to pay any thing finally since I got this through Borderlinx. So nothing other than what I had initially prepaid :ohyeah:

is borderlinx still an option? will the pricing be similar if we count the effort required, or will it turn out too expensive?
No No, Borderlinx will not work for a group buy that too of this magnitude. Don't even think of it!! Borderlinx has a maximum limit of 30Kgs per consignment and also very expensive.

IMO, you folks are on the right track. These things will take time. Have loads of patience :)

Ranjithv,

Please can you advise if we received the new quote for shipping and is it better than the onese received by Captain?

Captain -

I know you are working very hard to make the shippment reach us without we getting into any problem and I thank you for all the hard work on behalf of all the forum members.

Incase if there has been any progress / change can you please share the same with us... They silence is being scary

Regards,
Naren

@ Captain

Still waiting for the reply. Think will get a quote today evening or max tomorrow.

hi
this is addressed to all and danny in particular

WHATS HAPPENING ???
wasn't danny responsible for the shipping if i rembember correctly he was the one who offered the free shipping ( commonsense says he was aware of the shipping cost and made that offer based on that fact ...otherwise it makes a case of poor business acumen)

i transferred the money on march 2nd in a rush that the deal was getting over....there is still.no shipping in sight ....if i do not get a satisfactory response to this post by tomorrow evening i am abandoning ship (filing a paypal claim) sorry folks the wait is too long .....

I am covering the shipping cost.

What I found right away was that it is a whole lot cheaper to ship product from there to here than from here to there.

So I wound up having Peerless try to arrange a pick up and they drug along and drug along on it trying to get arrangements made. In the mean time I had the Captain look into getting this stuff picked up and he has been getting some better quotes.

Peerless finally got back to me with arrangements from their source and it was more expensive than any other quote.

The Captain sent me an e-mail this morning from Paramount Logistics with what he feels like is the best deal. I am pushing forward with getting it picked up.

Please hang in there it is coming. We have not been just sitting on it but making efforts daily to get this handled. This is more complex than I thought, but it is getting done.

Though Your frustration is understandable, your response is disproportionate IMO. :) Contrary to what you perceive, we (me & Danny) have been putting a lot of hard work to take this forward against all odds. I've not only invested substantial time, money but also put my reputation at stake. I tried to be as transparent as possible. If you feel that it's not worth it, please let me know. I'll pay you off & buy your stuff.
