Hi,

My friend is currently using Logitech X230 (low-to-medium level music speaker & is satisfied with it). He is going to Singapore.

Now the thing is he doesn't have much time for music listening. He was wondering whether he can buy a swan or similar active speaker from there right now & keep it sparsely used for about 3 years? Or should he wait for 3years and buy later. Later on, there are more chances of him not going abroad, so he may not get a decent active speaker.

Should he buy now or buy later is his dilemma !!

Also, what things (not electronics necessarily) can be got from Singapore which are unavailable/costly in India ?

Since he doesn't have time to listen to music and is satisfied with the current setup, why buy a new speaker system now? He can always upgrade later.

^ because a later upgrade will be an indian upgrade, and it will not include price differentials between india and abroad.

Three years is a really long time. He should definitely save up and buy something later. Even if it is an Indian upgrade. Remember that now there are a handful of good brands available in India at very competitive prices.

As far as I know, price of Wharfedale are very competitive in India. Same with Dali also..

Other members will tell better..

I don't know what budget range we are talking about but some of the brands with competitive pricing are:

Denon
Polk Audio
Wharfedale
Marantz
Usher (below US prices)
Blumenhofer
Scheu
Ayon
Audioengine
Mission
etc

I am sure you can find more if you dig deeper. Of course, there are overpriced products as well:

B&W
Dynaudio
Cyrus
etc

Hi,

My suggestion is a little bit practical, life is short, if you have decided to buy an item, buy it, use it and enjoy it.

cheers,

True. Buy it now, satisfy yourself now. Three years is a long time ( 1095 Days).
If you even listen to speakers for 1 Hr, It will be 1095 Hrs of satisfying music lost. You may even change your taste for music till then. You may have other priorities then. Might be a 25K setup may not satisfy you after 3 years. You may even delay it further because by then u require a higher end setup.
As Nike says "Just Do It". Now!!

Also, World might end in december 2012.

3 years is a very very long time.
my suggestion would be:
1. in 3 years i am sure his income/savings would be far better then today
2. new speakers would be in the market and with growing savings ( :) ) one would feel that the old ones are really pathetic and forceful buy of that time
3. when your friend is talking about the rate difference in singapore & india, i am sure in 3 years the prices of air tickets would also come down drastically. with his savings he can go there, buy the latest gear (which might be cheaper then india at that point of time), enjoy the trip and come home happy.

Why not take a look at the bookshelves I have for sale on the forum for 11k and get yourself a decent amp from olx/quickr. There are quite a few within your budget, I could even help you find one since you're in NCR.
