Building my Home Theatre Room - Please guide me

@Sumit: Thanks for your inputs over phone. I shall send you a sketch of my HT soon.

Hi Shubash & Santosh,
I am using the recliners from Stanley's, indeed they are expensive, i have paid Rs.72,000/-, it is pure leather, it occupies space, but they are extremely comfortable, it is a true recliner, class apart, this lazy boys are world leaders in such recliners.

My room was also not bigger earlier, but with a lot of planning i made the room bigger, one needs to be very effective during the planning stage.

Vinay
There is no doubt that LazBoys are one of the best recliners and suit Home Theaters the best. Since my room was purpose built, I wanted to get the largest possible room size. Unfortunately, there were some structural limitations that could not be overcome and we did not want to jeopardise the safety of the structure and occupants.

OSIM have some very good (massager) recliners -

OSIM India - iSymphonic
Nice one Suri, like Subhash mentioned it will be too bulky considering our room size. If we put just one of these, there will be very little place to move around.

I'm not sure, they are about roughly 6 - 7K here which are with monitor I suppose, I can check if you want
Thanks teky, that'll be great. Please check and also pm me the links.

Just out of the HT, not your home then
:D....the kennel to be precise.

Just for J, Suri indicated chairs will reduce the cost of Buttkickers, and it serves doubly what it is meant for HT peoples alone.. There is no need of megan fox coming out of the screen for massaging..

its worth all the pains u have taken , your ht looks fabulous

cudnt make out in the pics , but it looks great, great color combo and lighting

will spend more time on my nxt visit

congrats man ,

in one of your posts regarding security

u got lots of space outside your house , why not keep a pet ,probably a big one ---great dane / german shepard , this will solve all your security issues

Santhosh,
Congrats for the great build, I did see a post on material costs but would really benefit if you can post info on how much was the final bill (excluding room const and equipment)
would like to know the cost of sound treatment, painting, paneling, carpeting.
many thanks,
Manish

Yesterday we had a mini-HFV meet - buswal, subhash, aneelr and myself. For me it was a day well spent. Meeting some fantastic HFV members and learning a lot from them.

Day started off with myself visiting Buswal to check out his audio rig. He is a true audio-phile and has an impressive Hi-Fi setup. Hissetup included Acoustic Portrait speakers, Nakamichi, Sony, NAD, Rotel and also some DIY stuff like massive Towers and a pre-amp. He also had an ADCOM GFA 555 Mark-II which is now in my AV Rack, intimidating my other AV equipment;). For a quick review on the 555, read Adcom GFA-555 II [audiojunkies]

I already had a GFA 535 Mark-II which will be retained for surrounds for when I have a 7.1 multi-channel pre processor.

After the audition at Buswal's place, we went to Subhash's house to check out his recently purchased DT Trinity. Aneelr had already arrived there and we were blown listening and feeling the Almighty Trinity. A fantastic system you have Subhash, made my current HT setup look tiny and has re-affirmed my need to upgrade.

Aneelr is the gadget and movie freak amongst the four of us. I had been to his home two weeks ago and was in awe for his living room HT setup. He had gadgets all over his home and he has a fantastic taste for all good designs. This shows in all his gadgets - Mission HT speakers, Samsung 46" LED TV, Apple Ipod, PC, laptop to name a few.

One thing common to all these guys. They have successfully inflicted Upgrade-itis to me:ohyeah: and I am glad to be infected.

After this all of us went to my place to checkout my HT Room. It was really nice to have you AV enthusiasts home. Thanks for your valuable feedback guys. Appreciate if you can share your feedback here. I shall address them soon.

We ended the day with Buswal and Aneelr suggesting(and I wishing) that I buy the empty site next to my house. According to us, the house should have only two floors. The basement to be HT and ground floor to be a Listening Room:lol:.

Thanks Subhash for dropping in with your son. It was a pleasure having you over. You are welcome buddy.

Actually Subhash, more than security system, what I really needed was a monitoring system to have an eye on my son(sleeping) while we are watching a movie. One of the solutions that I found also came with a home security camera which is a "good to have". Teky has pointed me to a nice wireless baby monitor which I am considering as it has a display too.

We have had pets before but my wife is averse and scared of dogs, so no pets for now:(.

Thanks Manish, I will put up the list of materials with costs sometime soon. Until then, if you require any info on sourcing or costing, please feel free to PM me.

did u chk the size of your screen?
Yup, I did. Mine was 14.5 units.

For those who are wondering what this is about, when I had a look at Subhash's screen, I felt it was slightly smaller than mine. When Subhash saw my screen, he felt my screen was slightly larger too but we thought it was just a deception. We were at Subhash's home and since we did not have a measuring tape handy. So we measured it using the old way of measuring where one unit is Thumb to little finger and each finger is one milli-unit:lol:. When measured Subhash's was 13.2 units and mine was 14.5 units:).

I am using ip based camera, by which i can view my house when i am travelling while it can be used to monitor my living room while i am watching a movie etc in my mini theatre.

Vinay.

The difference is very small, just about 9 to 10 inches.

Vinay, kindly share some details.

The camera is internet based, it works like a normal camera too, which is being offered by home security firms. If i am travelling i can access my house through Internet, i have to log in with the password, the camera can catch audio sound too.

Vinay.

i thot mine was 12.5 , anyway thats the reason the hd20 is not filling up the screen , unless u move it back

the build quality of the panoview screen looked far better than the grandview

One thumb will be roughly 6inches (assuming the thumb including the palm is held horizontally). So 1ft for 2thumbs.

I hope you guys are using the same pair of hands for reference. Otherwise, there could be difference in calculation.

A better way to do the same thing when measuring tape is not handy is by using sewing thread or rope. You could have just cut it to size and the other person would have carried the same thread/rope back to his place.

I can't believe I just wrote this. Just buy a tape measure man. It will always come in handy.

Cheers!!

same hands used here ( santoshs hands to be precise)

read this somewhere abt the optoma hd 65 and hd20 set up, it says that to fill up an 120" from a distance of 13-14 feet, it shud be mounted above the level of the screen

this may be another reason that the image from hd20 is not filling up the screen

was jst checking at my place the hd65 is well above the level of the screen

Thanks cmsajith. Thump - is that what this kind of measurement is called in English? Just FYI, in Kannada, we called it "Genu" pronounced as "Gaynu" :).

.
Sumit, Subhash did not have one handy in the HT.

This is not an option for me as I have the A/C just above :(. I will first try to use a right angled HDMI coupler and a right angled Power cord. This way, I will be able to push the projector closer to the rear wall by another four inches. Hopefully, I will be able to cover the 2 inches on both sides this way.

If this does not work, I will live with it for a while. Then upgrade to a Pana PTAE4000 or equivalent 1080P LCD projector as LCD projectors have a shorter throw and should be able to fill up my screen easily.
