I have come across a super old AVR (Denon 1700) but I need speakers to run on it. What is the least I need to spend to get half decent music performance without having to spend separately on a subwoofer? Honestly Im okay with a bit of boomy bass because analytical sound gets very boring and has no body. I've used an Edifer 1700bt over the years and honestly sometimes its performance seemed more fun to me than my hifi setup (mission qx300 with a marantz 6007 amp).

So yeah, decent bass and as cheap as possible. What's a good entry point without feeling I wasted my money?

In my observation, around 6.5" woofer is at minimum required to make some significant vibrations in the bass registers (below 63 Hz).
Of course the box resonance and port design also matters (my 5" Quad makes almost same bass as my 6.5" Boston acoustics)

I cant recommend you any speaker but to have decent bass one needs big speakers. And they are costly. Look for atleast 10 inch woofer three way speakers. Doogesound at Thane (Maharashtra) had some semi diy 3 way speakers. How HiFi they are is not known. There are videos of it on youtube. (No ties with the seller.)
A mention of budget from your side will help forum members in recommendation.

Im hoping for nothing more than 10-15k (hard upper limit). And it will be used in a pretty small room and probably as a desktop setup.

Used ELAC debut Gen 1. Must fall into the budget and bass is their main strength. Hello lot of it ;) If you need the most balanced sound at 10-15k and second hand is no choice, then Edifier MR4, MR3 or MR5 depening on your budget.

I have Edifier MR4 with 3 to 4 months warranty left. I purchased it to evaluate recording quality. Mint condition with all literature and box available. There is review on audiosciencereview website with measurements. PM me if interested.

I have terrible experience with Doogesound. Received defective subwoofer amplifier and nil support on resolution.
