Which AVR to buy? Denon 1611 / Yamaha 465 or 467 / Onkyo 508: WRT pricing & Wharf 9.5

Hi everyone,

I know this is somewhat a similar thread that does round in this section of the forum but I needed suggestions with respect to the pricing that I would be getting for each.

And also I am planning to pair the AVR with Wharf 9.5. In this context which AVR would you all suggest I should go for??

Starting from the lowest:

Yama 465 - 19k

Yamaha 467 - 24k

Denon 1611 - 27k

Onkyo 508 - 28k (further negotiation possible)

Now keeping the above prices in mind I was planning to get either the 465 or 1611 but I want to be sure that the 8k I would be spending on D is well spent otherwise I would buy 9.1 or sub + 9.5 by stretching the budget a lil more.

Please advice.

1908 is more powerful than 1611 so how would 1611 fare with 9.5'?

And no suggestions for 465 leave me with just 1611 as the best bet to go for. Any comments on the yama are more than welcome

Denon with Wharf is a very good combi...
1611 with 9.2 is very good, if you need nice thumping bass, a SW is a must. With 9.5 also is a very good combi.

Yamaha 465 is a good VFM AVR @ 18/19k, however Denon 1611 @ 26/27k is well worth the money.

But could someone help me by simply listing out da differences between Yam 465/467 n Denon 1611 ???

Does there exist a site where I could compare AVRs from different makers ???
What would I miss out on if I go for 465 over 467 ???

Diff between the 465 and 467 is mainly 3D capability(HDMI 1.4)

I am in the US right now and picking up a receiver for myself during the Thanksgiving Sale

I am getting the below prices

Onkyo TX-SR508 - 250 $ (~11250)
Yamaha RX-V467BL - 300 $ (~13500)

Onkyo TX-SR608 - 390 $ (~17750)
Denon AVR-1611 - 400$ (~18000)

I am kind of leaning towards the 508, I may have to spend money on the stepdown transformer, but I am not sure how do I take care of warranty, would these have the international warranty (serviced by the Onkyo center in Mumbai)

If anyone has any experience of buying stuff from US and using it in India, please help.

Do not worry about a stepdown transformer, you can get very good quality and reliable ones easily in india.

Warranty - None of these carry Intnl Warranty as far as I am aware. In USA - you get US warranty only. Will the US warranty be applicable in india ?? - NO...thats the risk you take for the price difference :sad:. To put things in perspective, I havent come across a Yamaha or a Denon break down unless misused immensely.

Suggestion - From the above list - go for the Denon 1611, if you can afford..then surely 1911, both are very good for Music and Movies. I have owned Harman Kardon and Yamaha...love them both, but like the Denons a bit more...which will be my next upgrade.

My initial budget was about 20-25 K, and I had thought of buying HTS-3300 from Onkyo or Yamaha - YHT 292, but after looking at the prices here, I thought of picking up a receiver. 1911 is about 27000 RS.

Actually I havent thought through about the speakers yet. Do you have any sugestions on 5.1 setup in 20K or less ?

for 20k or less u will only get starter 5.1 systems, u can try products of savoyyamaha shop @ ebay.in or Profx - Advanced Audio Solutions, mission 5.1 combo system look attractive by savoy.i don't know much about speaker brand combinations as i'm new to this a/v world but from reading various threads i gather denons don't pair well with mission,maybe i'm wrong so pls go through various threads on forum u will be a better judge.
