Denon 1612 vs Marantz SR 5005 ?

Marantz supports these formats. See Marantz US | SR5005

hi baijuxavior ,

I have some doubts on Marantz Sr5005.that when I saw the specification of it , there I found is it support 100w per channel ( 100W (20Hz - 20kHz, 0.08% THD, 2ch driven) x7) .but some one in this forum told me it is not supporting 100w per channel .can you clear my doubt? please.

I have only one advice to give you - don't worry about the maximum amplifier power out. You are never going to increase the sound to its maximum. The AVR volume is high enough to fill a moderately sized room even with my Denon 1612. The marantz 5005 is higher model than denon 1612. What you need to look for is a matching speaker set for the AVR.

Trust me, Polk RM705 will be an insult to Marantz. If it was PM6750, I would definetly recommend. It is much better according to me, though its older. RM705 had a very congested sound when I demoed them. The sub is also not great according to me. It is just average. You could instead look at Boston Soundware XS 5.1 or may be Wharfedale Moviestar MS 100HCP

those are available in Bangalore?and cost should me below 27k

Both are available on HiFimart.com

But if possible, please audition them locally before buying. No clues on where they can be demoed in Bangalore.

just now I saw in hifimart.com. are they suitable to Marantz SR5005 and Denon 1612 AVRs?I am planing to buy Marantz Sr5005.pls finalize my HT.

Please mention your room size.if its under 250sqft then for what reason you are buying Marantzsr5005 7.1,if you are going to buy Marantz then you have to buy speakers than the Polk.sound quality is not independent on wattage.also notice the price difference.I am also have 1612 and experienced Marantz and rotel top models.but considering my room size and budget 1612 is adequate for me.please also consider sonodyne.its better than Polk at this price tag.I am not an expert but I am an audio engineer and this is purely my opinion.

Hi Manu George,

You can't just decide AVR according to a room size, however you have mentioned in your post that your listening distance will 7 feet so both Denon 1612 & Marantz SR5005 are powerful enough for your room.

Following Points one has to keep in mind while buying AVR

Sound Quality :
Speaker Calibration
Power
Wireless Connections : Bluetooth, Ehternet, Wifi
Outputs : No.of HDMI out etc
Inputs : No. of Optical , HDMI
Apple Connectivity : iPod,Iphone
Video Up conversion :
MultiZone
No. Of Channels : 5.1 and 7.1
Sound Decoding : DTS, DTS HD , Dolby etc

Sound Quality should be the most important while choosing AVR and then make sure that the amplifier can deliver clean power to the speakers. Compare power ratings between receivers The smaller the THD rating of a
receiver, the better quality sound it produces.

Hi
How to check sound quality for AVR ?I am simply planing to buy Marantz SR5005 modal.

just go for a marantz SR5005 or even denon is good..

If you like the sound of what you hear.. go for it.. preferably buy the avr and 5.1 from the same place so you can get to demo it.

dont get too technical about these things.. you will end up going around in circles. majority of the AVR users dont even use half the features.

The other half ( like me ) buys the AVR and uses it for a few movies at home ( but ends up watching most movies in a cinema hall because the ambience and the social atmosphere is so much better )

regards,
mpw

Sony is no match for Denon or Marantz. I suggest the Marantz model as it is a bit high above Denon 1612. Also Marantz is said to be more musical than Denon.

I moved to marantz from denon and i must say it is more musical for me than denon in the same room and with same old speakers.. I would also recommend marantz 5005 over denon 1612.

He has already purchased Marantz SR5005. Mods have deleted some posts.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
