Eminence and Fostex

Hello,
I am planning to build my first speaker system. An open baffle designed by
Martin King. It needs Eminence Alpha 15A (woofer) and Fostex 103E (full range) drivers. Can
someone please inform me where I can find these drivers in India? These are available
in US and Europe but the shipping cost makes it more than double the price.:sad:

Cinetekk in Chennai, deal with Eminence products, but to the best of my knowledge they do not import or sell the Alpha 15A.


They have all other models.

Thank you for your help in advance. I did contact Cinetekk in Chennai.
They do not have Alpha 15A, but has Alpha 12A. However they did not
mention shipping charge instead asked me to pay the Courier service
on arrival. Now I have no clue how much it will be. Also I do not need
12A.

I will wait for your reply.

I placed order for two Alpha 15a on the ebay, Rs 4440/- each. The price includes international shipping and all other international and Indian tax and custom duty etc.
ebay is giving this offer and today is the last day. I place this information here if anybody

Hi,
The link is OB Theory . I did not get fostex
103e in India. Audire in coimbatore has several other model of fostex except this one.
So finally I ordered the fostex 103en from Madisound Speakers , USA. But once
you read the above article on Open Baffle design you can design your own with the
available drivers in India. I do not have time for so much experiment. Also the Branded
Open Baffle dpeakers available are sky-high expensive. So following the above design as
it is.

I received the fostex from madisound couple of days back. I got a shock
by the custom duty I had to pay. Then after opening the packet noticed
that one of the driver was damaged, the cone was squeezed as if
some inexperienced person held the driver keeping thumb on the
cone and the magnet by the other fingers. The cone is very fragile and
it got damaged. The seal of the driver packet was broken, the polythin wrap of the speaker was not there. The driver was placed in the reveresed way in its basket (comparing to the untouched driver). Who it could be? Custom?
If yes, then why can't they handle items carefully when I am paying so much
custom charge (almost 30 percent)?

I shot back an email to madisound, they immediately replied and
sending a new driver free of any charge as replacement. Now
praying for its safety.

This is an eye opener.

Customs!! Of Course. I have made a few trips to their office. They open packets to inspect and estimate duty. How much duty did you pay?!!

I would suggest you not pack the drivers before visiting the customs office!! Take the drivers to them and show them the Sh!t job they have done and demand an explanation. and ask who checked and unpacked it. Atleast they have to have a mental note as a reminder to be careful. Your visit will hopefully save others from trauma.

done in Delhi. They do not seem to respect anything: neither the product
nor the money of the customer. I have absolutely no problem to pay the
custom charges but damaging the product is a bit too much. Has anybody
here fought a legal battle with the custom official and won? Kindly inform me.

duty should be be more than 25% correct? $100 appears to be too much. They have arbitrarily decided the value and slapped you with high charges. At the same time businessmen that bribe them will get away with undervalued imports. This way their balance their departmental targets with personal greed.

Sorry to hear your experience, Chandan,should be an eye opener for other people who'd like to import. Is Fedex a better option in view of better handling and customs clearance, notwithstanding their premium shipping charges, or am i wrong?

Hi,
Yes, it is difficult to accept such an irresponsible handling of shipment.
I am not aware of the efficiency of Fedex, but this was one of the options in the
Madisound checkout.

This is the first time I imported items except for receiving samples from
companies from overseas. So I do not have much to say.

make a formal complaint to Fedex.
