Flipkart Vinyl purchases and suggestions

Thanks Saket for the tips. I will give them a try some day :)
Any experience with pakistani sellers?

Saw discogs in detail. Its quite expensive!

No..never dealt with Pakistani dealers.

Are you looking to buy Indian pressings from discogs?! Never do that. You'll get ripped :p Indian pressings have lot of value abroad. Discogs is very good if you're looking to buy particular records (not good for bulk purchase because it's practically impossible to find a seller that has 40-50 records you want). Records that go for over 50$ on Ebay..those you can find for 20-25$ on discogs (sometimes it's the other way round as well).

Same here! Even I've given up on Flipkart. The prices of LPs have just soared! The 29% discount that they used to offer is no longer there. Plus even if you order something from them now, they take almost a month on an average (as opposed to 12-15 days on an average earlier). I don't know what's wrong..the LP specialist has quit the job :p or maybe they're not able to afford 29% discount because of the high dollar price.

Now I've started buying new LPs from amazon.uk. But there are problems there too! The way the pack the LPs..pathetic! They call it : frustration free packaging! Frustration free my foot! The last 2 records i received from them arrived in a horrific state (corners all bent). But atleast they refund/replace it without any question. I don't know who came up with the idea to pack records in such flimsy cardboard boxes!

So the best way still seems to be to buy directly from the record labels. They know how to pack, they communicate with customers well, and they offer very reasonable prices.

Yeah, Amazon's packaging is pretty pathetic. I've gotten some badly warped and dinged records which they replaced, so that was ok. Sometimes there records reach perfectly though. So it's a mixed bag.

Not had too many problems with customs. I guess it depends on the time of year. Sometimes my Amazon parcels have been stopped for customs, and opened up. I was very angry a few months ago when a rare LP i ordered on Amazon had been opened up and the customs guys had basically sliced off a huge chunk of the spine with a razor and there was a deep cut on the back cover of the LP. But for the most part the records come through ok. I would say they reach me without customs hassles or damages about 80% of the time. Which is not too bad considering how far some of these records travel to get to me.

I have just ordered the Janis Joplin Classic Vinyl box set from Amazon.in. The price was almost at par with the US price and the order is being fulfilled by ibhejo.in . I always wanted this set and read many reviews about these 180g pressings and people were really happy with the SQ. So I decided to just go ahead with the purchase.

Happy to see the progress on the order so far. It has already been shipped and should reach me by 20th April.

Hope to get it safely.

Previously, I had ordered the Eric Clapton : Unplugged double LP set from Clapton's own website store and it had reached me pretty quickly. Although, the custom had opened the package but fortunately they did not go ahead with opening the plastic covering.

Amaz!n Amazon !! These guys delivered my order 3 days before the expected date and in absolute immaculate condition.

Received my Janis Joplin - The Classic LP Collection set.

Time to enjoy them ol' blues again mama ! :licklips:

Does Amazon India sell vinyl records?

They certainly have a huge international catalogue in thousands (with prices also in thousands :D ). The Hindi one has just 7 while 2 bengali ones are there. That maybe because of very few being released lately.

Amazon.in is also way too overpriced. You can order same product from Amazon UK including shipping for half the price.

It really doesn't make sense to me why Amazon.in and Flipkart have these absurd priced. Even with shipping + duties they still make a large chunk extra.

The Janis box set that I got was very appropriately priced. I recently saw the same thing going for 88 USDs and I got it for INR 4440.

It's a matter of keeping an eye on the good deals that pop up once in a while on Indian websites.
