Hi Everyone,

Is there a way that we can carry floor standers from USA. If we can carry the floor standers do we need to take any precautions.

Am waiting for the Music guru's to shed some light :)

Hi

If you are planning to get speakers from the USA, you need to consider good packing....the weight of the speakers and hence charges, customs at our airports here in India etc.

Keeping all these things in mind, evaluate if it will make sense to cart the speakers from USA to Mumbai in terms of efforts, costs and time involved.

There are a few who have successfully brought speakers from USA to India and are happy satisfied users....

You need to review and take a decision.

Thanks eferand1.

I will check it out, most of the towers ( pair ) is going more than the baggage allowance, looks like it is easy to carry a bookshelf pair as a separate luggage rather than tower.

Appreciate your suggestion.

I got a pair of Infinity Primus 163 bookshelf speakers from USA size 18.2 x 14.2 x 11.5 inches,7.5 kg each. One speaker in a big strolley suitcase each.It almost occupied 70 percent space.Packed at edges with original foam blocks and wrapped with bubble wrap easily available in USA in rolls. The original boxes were too big to place in the suitcase. No problem with customs in Delhi. But in USA it was checked casually by customs by opening the luggage and a slip of inspection was found by me later. But your airline should allow two luggages if u are travelling alone and want to carry the speakers. If u want to carry separately check the number of baggage allowed for check in and the weight also.
You can go for any good bookshelf from USA.

DHL is the best option and they have some Sub-Dealers. If you could contact them and arrange for the shipping then the item will be in your hand within 5 days time. They will clear customs and colect the customs fee from you at the time od delivary.

It depends on which fs you want to buy. I guess most of the brands are available in India. Anf price is close to usa if you look at efforts and cost involved in shipping and customs. Plus you will loose warranty.

it really should be decent pair of speakers (i would say $2000 or above) if you want to import from USA. First check the cost/benefit before taking the plunge. Things to note:

- Ship by air or sea (most speakers coming to US have already made the journey by sea, so they will be good). Worst case you may need a clear coat polish and it will give you many years of good looks
- If sea, use original packaging and crate it. insure it to larger value as you need to account for import duties and taxes if you have to buy in india
- if air, ensure you take the original boxes to airport and have it shrink wrapped. you will be nailed for import duties for sure.
- (my preference) for non sea is to get it through a courier company. insure it appropriately and you wont have hassles all the way down.

if its bookshelves, depending on size and weight you can invest in an extra suitcase for about $200 and get it in there.

Hi PGY

As mentioned by our FMs above there are multiple ways to get decent bookshelf speakers...before deciding, check all factors and other speakers availability in India....after checking all pros and cons...including warranty and pricing.....go ahead...
