Hi,
I have a 22*14 Living room which is oddly shaped to allow for an open kitchen and I am looking to audition speakers for my setup. After much deliberation, I have finalized a 2.0 stereo setup, which will be powered by a Denon 2311 AVR since I want to get a center later for my movie needs.

Movies/Music ratio -> 40/60

I listen to classic rock more often, and will be auditioning
1. Brothers in arms - dire straits
2. Wish you were here - Pink Floyd
3. Come away with me - Norah Jones
4. Mack the knife - Louis Armstrong
5. Complex - Blue Man DVD
6. Master and Commander DVD
7. Run To The Hills Live - Flight 666 - DVD

From the options to audition, I figured that these would be the likely speakers to look at. Since I am in Mumbai sometime of the week on work, I plan to audition them here.

WHARFEDALE 9.6/10.5 - TheShop/Alliance4
MORDAUNT SHORT AVIANO 6 - TheShop/Alliance4
MONITOR AUDIO BR5 - TBD
KLIPSCH RF 62 - Cinebels
Polk Audio Rti A7 - ProFx/Avxcellence Pune
Paradigm Monitor 7 - TBD

If there are suggestions where I can see this paired with a Denon Amp, your help would be greatly appreciated.

As always any other related suggestions are welcome.

I liked the Jamo c605 for a similar range of music, you can try the kef's I would rate them higher than the polks. The wharfedales were a bit too bass heavy to my liking.

Instead of Diamond 10.5, I would go for a Wharfedale Diamond 10.6 that is priced around Rs.42,000/- here in chennai. Its sweet sounding, nice deep bass and did not miss most of the sounds, when i auditioned with the Dark Knight Bluray and Transformers Bluray. They are just too good for the money.

Wharfedale Diamond 9.6 is an average sounding speaker in the entire range

Monitor Audio BR5 is too flat and dumb for the price

Klipsch RF 62 is too loud and harsh, causes fatigue after long listening hours

Polk Audio Rti A7 has mild mids and very weak bass

Paradigm Monitor 7 is a nice sounding pair of floorstanders. It has very clear, crisp mids and highs. Soft on ears. Doesn't go too deep(Weak Sub Bass). Soundstage is not too wide. You can close your eyes and tell where the speakers are

I've heard the Jamo S 608 Floorstanders. They had decent mids and highs and has the worst bass i've ever heard from a floorstander, even though it has a dedicated side woofer.

Decision is yours! Listen to it before purchase, so you won't regret later.

I can suggest you a Floor Stander @ half the budget. Sonodyne Sonus 2605 V2. Itz a 3-way speaker rated @ 130W costing 24K. I believe it should be an ideal match for Denon Receiver. Sonodyne 260 is little on the brighter side when paired with a integrated stereo amplifier. But when you pair this FS with any receiver, it is not bright at all. It has a good bass & Clarity. Do check them and decide.

Dali concept 6 is a good option for around 40K. Very good mid. No too bad for bass. Highs are good. Better than Wharfdel Diamond 10.5. (too much bass)

I just had a quick round of first cut reviews of the speakers powered with a Denon 1910 amp, with Stereo setup, base at +2 and treble at +6 and volume set at -17db

MS Aviano 6 at The Shop
Wharfdale 10.6 at The Shop
Wharfdale 9.5 at Alliance4
Polk RTiA7 at Viola
Jamo S606 at Viola

Unfortunately the visit to mumbai was without my media so heard speakers on a variety of music, but somehow the Polk A7 and MS Aviano6 came across as the speakers which match the listening sound I might enjoy.

I plan to do a more dedicated listen on my shortlisted media sometime in Oct 1st week when I am back in India to shortlist a buy.

On a side note, I heard the Mezzo 8 and it was a different SQ than the ones I heard, but that is way outside my affordability range right now.

BTW, any place where I can hear the MS Aviano6 in Mumbai/Pune in a listening room. The Shop has a very open setup where you get distracted very easily.

On a side note. Anyone shopped for Audio equip in Singapore?
Am here for a week on work and wouldn't mind spending some hours in the evening auditioning.

I have only heard about a building called the Adelphi which hosts Hi-Fi equipment and contrasting accounts.

dont limit yourself to floorstanders. also audition good bookshelves at the same price range like the monitor audio silver rx2

Try sim lim square also..adelphi is good you will see lot of hi end variety audio equipments but on expensive side...

Since you liked Polk, I think you should also audition offerings from JBL and Infinity that fall in your price range. American speakers tend to do rock better than British speakers - the latter are usually voiced to be a little polite or laid-back.

try Monitor Audio for depth and clarity, or Wharfedale for bass.

You can easily afford good floorstanders. So try to go for them.

.
Check these out...these are priced a bit more.
They have been having really really good reviews all over. I auditioned them, the bass is awesome in them and the mid range is crystal clear.
A little bargaining can bring the priced down a bit.

...if you can find someone else to buy it along with you, 2-3 pairs can fetch u a really good deal :). PM me if you or someone else is interested.

Hi,
Consider EPOS M12i also as they fall in your budget. They are great bookshelf speakers and in terms of quality they rate on top in the budget you mentioned.

Purchase the Audiolab 6000A Integrated Amplifier at a special offer price.
